Unpaid leave/ Redundancy

Went into work today (Childminding Assistant) and I found out 2 parents have said "Goodbye were are not paying you and we're not coming back" and another one has said "Today is the last day for my child, I'll pay what I owe and maybe I'll see you in a few weeks/months".

Well now I've been put on unpaid leave for at least this month and a reduction to 3 days until September, because she has no money.

Heard on the news that the same is happening to Virgin staff.
Does anyone know what our rights are?
I thought BOJO didn't want businesses to suffer. We aren't able to spend if we are all unemployed... How many redundancies are there going to be?

There won’t be any redundancies because no one - especially in the childcare industry- will be able to afford redundancy payments.

Staff will be forced to take unpaid leave, I’m afraid. Unless the government orders the insurance companies to pay out - and it should be everyone’s priority to get behind this.

My mum has just been ‘temporarily’ laid off without pay, along with all the other staff with immediate effect.

They have bills to pay for and mouths to feed I just can’t see how that is right. But apparently the owner has checked with employment law and they can do its

It's ridiculous and I don't blame small businesses per se... but Richard Branson and the Government could get their hands out their butts and help people. Thought they liked tax payers...

My heart really does go out to people in this situation.

I'm able to work from home but a lot of my colleagues don't have this option due to working in warehousing etc, and are being told to take it as holiday or unpaid. We are still operating but if self-isolation is required they obviously can't come in.

I've started a bit of a rally to see if we can get as many people from the WFH front to donate annual leave days and transfer them to people who need it. There are concerns that staff will still have all of their holidays to take by the end of the year so this would solve that problem too!
