SSP if whole family isolates

Since yesterday Boris said if one person shows symptoms the whole family needs to isolate for 14 days does anyone know the rules about SSP if a whole family isolates?

My husband has just called and said that his workplace have announced that if you need to self isolate because you have symptoms then there will be SSP only instead of the usual contractual sick pay.

They then said if someone in your family has symptoms and you are required to isolate but are symptom free yourself then you will be off on zero pay because you yourself are not sick.

I am also fuming because he has been refused home working despite the fact that his role can be 95% done from home with no issues and actually they often get him working extra hours from home evenings and weekends so it's tried and tested, we KNOW he can do his job from home very effectively.

Luckily we are symptom free at the moment but I am so concerned because chances are one of us will develop symptoms at some point. I have no work as am self-employed and clients have all suspended my jobs so we only have his income.

It can't be right can it that if he had to self isolate because either one of our kids or myself had symptoms he will just have to go home on zero pay for 14 days. I thought the whole point of the changes to SSP was to make people feel able to follow the guidance (which we will of course if we need to but we won't be able to pay the rent).

They won't know if he has a temperature of not though so he can tell them he has one. Nobody is going to say they are symptom free if it's costing them pay.

Lying is the answer?

My husband's work has said the exact same... if they are "choosing" to self isolate because of a sick family member they get nothing! They're not bloody choosing, they're following government advice!

Oddly, he usually works remotely, but because customer visits have been cancelled, he's now required to work in the office HmmConfused

Lying is the answer?

Yes. Yes it is. OP is already going to struggle if he only gets SSP for 2 weeks. Why make it any harder?

If he has to self isolate of course you tell his work he has a temperature. They are doing nothing to help the worker.
