Just that! Until I checked mumsnet I realised we had a serious situation on our hands, and that hand washing is essential, and isolating if you have symptoms. And that was that, carried on as normal. But coming on here, and it's people convinced they are going to die because they've got asthma, people refusing to go into work (even though they don't have any symptoms), people planning for the end of the world. I'm sorry, but this just doesn't reflect the rest of the world. I was at my friend's last night, and apart from mentioning her partner needs to be careful because he's got cancer, it wasn't mentioned. Same when I went shopping. On here it's sounds like the world is ending. Aibu??

It says that people with cancer etc should be self isolating to avoid the general public. That means you.

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 18:44

Some people just are not terribly bright, so the government it appears, is going to have to SPELL OUT what underlying conditions are.

FFS. How could you not know that cancer is a dangerous underlying condition? God, please don't allow me to swear

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 18:45

@turdtimelucky that's because of idiots panicking. Not because of the virus itself.

Yes, but they have not been told to self isolate. In fact he had an appointment at the hospital today. If I had the virus, or symptoms, then I would self isolate, but I don't. I am following the advice. Some people on here are not, then having the cheek to criticise me for not being vigilant enough.

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 18:48

@turdtimelucky now you are calling me names. Unbelievable. Great how we've all come together in a time of crisis...

peaceanddove · 17/03/2020 18:48

Agree. Very little hysteria round here. Both local shops and greengrocers fully stocked and open normal hours. We nipped out for a 'spoons lunch and it was a bit quieter than normal but not much.

Just watching BBC news and Mark Eastern's ridiculously dramatic report 'the Queen is isolating herself from her people and the nation behind the guards and gates of Buckingham Palace' Hmm

Yeah because normally Liz is regularly seen swapping chit chat and sharing a casual fag with sightseers at the palace gates.

DixieFlatline · 17/03/2020 18:49

Yes, but they have not been told to self isolate. In fact he had an appointment at the hospital today.

You have to be taking the piss. Some appointments are important enough to attend despite otherwise self-isolating.

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 18:49

No- people are criticising you for having the stupidity to argue against a wall of facts. It's on every news outlet, every front page, every SM platform, every shop you go into - it's glaring you in the face.

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 18:52

@turdtimelucky, fuck it. If this is how evolved we are then perhaps it's our time. Your response to me asking a genuine question is depressing as shit. Why are your name calling me? I believe that I have interpreted the advice correctly and am following it, I think that some people on here have misinterpreted it, and are not following it, instead they are panicking and escalating the situation. I've opened this up for discussion, and appear to be facing some kind of verbal lynching.

OP posts:
Isla727 · 17/03/2020 18:52

Yes you are absolutely being unreasonable.

The world is in crisis. People are dying, businesses are closing, people are going bankrupt, there are food shortages and everyone is being told to avoid social contact.

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 18:54

Believe me, 'idiot' was the tamest word I could muster honeybunch.
Some people are just so unutterably stupid, it boggles the brain.

I had people arguing with me yesterday because I was refusing to self isolate - I can't - if I want to get supplies in, I need to leave the house. Now they thought that I was fucking stupid. But not even I am stupid or selfish enough to rock up to someone's house who has cancer!

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 18:55

@turdtimelucky, would you say 98% survival rate is high? I haven't argued against the facts. I've wondered if the perspective of mumsnut is unreasonable, I think it is. No doubt this is serious, and we shoukd/could face a lock down, but no one needs to plan their funeral just yet, or say that nothing wil ever be the same. Or assume that they won't survive this.

OP posts:
FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 18:57

But I don't have it!! Obviously I wouldn't go if I did? People with cancer still need to go to des appointments, and the shops, and some to work if they are on zero hours contracts.

OP posts:
turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 18:57

It would be different if you pulled in your horns, put your hands up and said, Ok, I can see that I made a very stupid opening post. Instead, you're taking fucking offence to telling you that you're an idiot for going around to the house of someone who has cancer. After all the fucking advice we're surrounded with! There are no better adjectives, or apt adjectives than pure and utter idiocy and stupidity that I can think of.

woodchuck99 · 17/03/2020 18:58

Agree. Very little hysteria round here. Both local shops and greengrocers fully stocked and open normal hours. We nipped out for a 'spoons lunch and it was a bit quieter than normal but not much.

So you believe following government advice and not going to pubs as an example of "hysteria"? It's idiots like you that will ultimately lead to more draconian measures.

Isla727 · 17/03/2020 18:58

OP I'm sorry you have had a difficult time on this thread but the government really has told people to avoid social contact and stated that includes places like pubs (so therefore cafes and restaurants), theatres etc. This really means staying in, working from home where possible and NOT interacting with people outside of your household unless essential.

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 18:59

Do you know what 2% of the British population is? Do you even know what the population of the UK is? Come back to me with a figure and tell me then whether you think that's high or not.

woodchuck99 · 17/03/2020 18:59

People with cancer still need to go to des appointments, and the shops, and some to work if they are on zero hours contracts.

Hospital appointments are essential though. They may not be going to the shops or working even if on zero hour contracts.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/03/2020 19:00

The whole point is you don’t know if you have it! People can have it asymptomatically, but pass it on. People can pass it on before they have symptoms. So yes, you popping to see someone with cancer could kill them. Unlikely, but is it worth the risk?

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 19:02

It's not a stupid opening post. I stand by it. Why would I avoid someone with cancer? I met them in the bookies, they'd just been out for a drink. They had Dr's before, and hadn't once been told to stay in. I think the people on here are being crazy. Sorry, am not seeing this reflected anywhere else apart from here. Genuinely think the people on here aren't acting like the people in real life. I was intrigued by the contrast so have posted on here. And everyone's jumped down my throat. Calling me an idiot, and some sort of inference to the devil?! Just bizarre

OP posts:
turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 19:03

You mention you have an addiction. Come back when that becomes in short supply. Wink

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/03/2020 19:03

You should avoid someone with cancer because the government have advised all people with underlying health conditions (in case you hadn’t realised, cancer is one of those underlying health conditions) to avoid any social contact. It’s fairly simple.

FreshFancyFrogglette · 17/03/2020 19:03

Working is essential for zero hours contractors.

OP posts:
turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 19:04

Well - if you hang out in bookies and pubs................
