Washing and drying clothes

There seems to be conflicting advice about this. Can anyone link to an authoritative source?

The only official information I can find is (from gov.uk site)

"To minimise the possibility of dispersing virus through the air, do not shake dirty laundry.

Wash items as appropriate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. All dirty laundry can be washed in the same load."

other sources suggest washing at 60?

And I went to hang my washing outside this morning, second guessed myself and wondered if it was good idea or not !?

The advice is to wash it at the warmest setting for that laundry item. I'm hanging out laundry today but have no neighbours. If I lived in a terrace I might think twice.

I haven't seen anything about this but usually put some laundry dettol in with my washing anyway, especially for DC then you can still wash at 30.

As for hanging it outside I still would. I can't see how it would get infected out there if it's spread by infected people unless you have a shared garden or something.
If you iron it surely the heat from the iron will kill the germs anyway?

Hang it outside - laundry detergent will inactivate the virus just as soap does, plus UV from sunlight is antiviral

I was overthinking about airborne viruses I think! Thanks for reassurances.
