My Mum is 74 and lives on her own. Both my brother and I have school age children so we're staying away but she's already so sad at the thought of being on her own for so long.

She has a sister who is also in her 70s and on her own. They get on well and happily spend time together.
Would it be awful if I advised my Mum to go and stay with her now?

Is anyone else doing this?

I honestly don't know how her mental health, let alone her physical health, will cope with so much time alone.

I've made sure she knows how to video call us but it's not enough.
Sad

I think it's a good plan!

Thelnebriati · 17/03/2020 11:12

I think this is a really good idea, if they can get on together in confinement. It also means that things like deliveries will be more efficient. It cant hurt to suggest it?

BeFire · 17/03/2020 11:25

I'm going to suggest it. Her sad face on our last video call has just made me cry. She forgets that she's not young and healthy.

They're good friends as well as sisters...not saying they won't annoy each other sometimes though Grin .

As a teenager I worked my uni holidays in a private nursing home where two elderly ladies shared a big room , they bickered constantly with each other but the nurse in charge said it was good as it was social interaction and gave them something to focus on - I was a bit Confused but could see her point as well

lubeybooby · 17/03/2020 11:37

really good plan but needs to be done right now before the risk gets any higher. We're at the beginnings of the very steep upcurve now.

BeFire · 17/03/2020 11:50

@stuntbanana I totally see her point. My Mum quite enjoys having something/someone to moan about. I can always tell when she's not seen anyone for a few days, it's like a light fading.

Good point @lubeybooby

Thanks everyone.
