(CV related) Wwyd - decamp outside London?

new0rules · 17/03/2020 10:38

I have a 5 year old dd, we live in central London. Schools are obviously still open. I must say I am getting more worried now. I am working from home for the foreseeable future- all I need is my work laptop and WiFi.
My dad has a flat he rents out in my hometown (midlands/countryside) and currently he has no tenant. He’s offered it to me and dd if we want to decamp from London (which is apparently ahead of the U.K. in terms of corona spread). The flat has a garden and 2 bedrooms, generally more space than our little flat in London, and if they close schools it may be easier for dd to have the extra space to play etc. I am also concerned about the pollution in London and how that might affect us if we get the illness.
Please be kind as I have anxiety/ocd and well aware that I tend to panic over health issues.
Would you take dad up on his offer of the flat at this point? I also know we have more doctors and hospitals in London and more shops in case of disrupted supply chains which could be a reason to stay.
Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Decamping is surely how this spreads quicker. You and your DD may not have any symptoms but you may carry this virus either on your person or luggage anything. Then you take it to an area less affected and cause that area to be infected.

If you are worried by all means take your child out of school and stay indoors.

IndecentFeminist · 17/03/2020 10:48

I would. I'd go, and keep yourselves to yourselves for a week or two to check you have no symptoms.

LefttoherownDevizes · 17/03/2020 10:50

If you did get I'll where had better facilities/family etc to help you. I think that's what you need to focus on

GroggyLegs · 17/03/2020 10:54

Personally, I'd go.
Self isolate when you get here though, okay?

Midlands has got the same chains of food retailers, all supplied by the same wholesalers as London. The shortages/supplies will IMO be comparable.

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/03/2020 10:54

I would go and self isolate for a couple of weeks. If we end up being confined to our houses then the space would be good.
But other than that I can’t see any other reason

shinyredbus · 17/03/2020 11:01

It won’t matter where you self isolate if you’re going to self isolate.

dappledsunshine · 17/03/2020 11:03

I would go, it sounds like a much nicer environment.

InOtterNews · 17/03/2020 11:03

If you can avoid using transport to get there, then there's no reason not to go.

I do expect pollution to improve in London though.

JellyBelly78 · 17/03/2020 11:12

I’d go in a heartbeat, a garden will make a big difference. I’d avoid public transport though if you can.

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 17/03/2020 11:14

geekone is right. People fleeing the city is why it’s all over Italy & Spain. If you want to isolate stay where you are

Isthistrueor · 17/03/2020 11:15

I’d definitely go. London has been the worst hit by a long stretch so far, there’s no way I could comfortably live there right now.

LiquoricePickle · 17/03/2020 11:16

If you can drive there and self isolate then I'd go. I say that as someone who has been on lockdown for over fifty days now.

Etinox · 17/03/2020 11:17

Going would be massively irresponsible. You’d spread it on the way down whether you isolated once there or not.

Clymene · 17/03/2020 11:18

How will they spread it on the way if they travel by car? Confused

Clymene · 17/03/2020 11:18

I would go in your shoes. Better to be close to family too

smellycatwee · 17/03/2020 11:19

please don`t op. this is exactly what happened in Italy. people fleed to coasts etc! and look at poor italy now.

blue25 · 17/03/2020 11:19

Yes I’d go. London is likely to go into lockdown soon.

new0rules · 17/03/2020 11:19

We can definitely travel by car - and would plan to self isolate when there. It will jsut be easier to social distance with some outside space.

Windyone · 17/03/2020 11:19

Surely if the OP drives there and has no contact with anyone on the way and then isolates for 14 days it will be fine?

BadCatDirtyCat · 17/03/2020 11:20

Just WFH in London. If you and your DC stay at home together you're pretty low risk. Travelling will just spread it. Also good to have all your home comforts with you when stuck in.

I'm in London too (and both DP and I are in the higher risk category) and my family have a holiday home out in the sticks. We considered heading out there but chose not to for the above reasons.

lubeybooby · 17/03/2020 11:20

I would go now while the risk is still comparatively low. it won't be for long.

This is how it spreads
Foolish

Springsnake · 17/03/2020 11:27

Shocked at the amount of people saying they would do this
This is how it spreads

new0rules · 17/03/2020 11:29

How will it spread if we are driving and self isolating? I’m not an idiot.....
