NHS telling us to isolate, work saying come in?!

7yo has had a cough since Thursday, still going on.

As per govt advice and NHS she has been in with me since Saturday whilst DH and DS go on as normal then I go to work around him.

After the changes yesterday we're all at home, both our workplaces (local authority, public facing and with vulnerable people) are telling us that it's "your choice" whether to come in or not because we're fine - explained about the new information to be told no body is forcing you to sit at home. It's only a guideline.

I'm now thinking we just need to go in as normal, can't afford to lose 2 wages but I also don't want to put anyone at risk.

Anyone else encountered this?

Yes, it’s all guidance so we are free to use our discretion. As I understand it.

Our company policy doesn't meet government advice either - basically if our place of work is open we are expected in as normal unless a doctor has specifically told us we are unable to as we have Coronavirus

DullPortraits · 17/03/2020 11:52

Meant to say even if someone we live with has symptoms we are expected in to work as normal

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 17/03/2020 11:58

Yep I'm pregnant and just got asked if I wanted to still come into work or work from home.

yatapina · 17/03/2020 11:59

Seems very odd!

I just can't quite figure all of this out tbh, I'm not one for blindly following the government but surely if these are the only measures being put in place then employers need to respect them?!

If I went in and spread it around they'd be quick enough to point the finger. NHS advised to isolate my daughter on Saturday so I assumed that this now stretches to all of us. Can't win really can we, it's no wonder other countries have had to just stop people from going out.

Neither of us can work from home.

To be honest guys this is why we need a legal lock down.

Your employers are wrong. Formal "advice" from the Government is anyone in your family with symptoms - you must self isolate for 14 days.

If this needs to be legal before employers listen we may as well have COVID 19'parties and kill the NHS.

Public sector. What a load of shite. Give advice and the. They choose to ignore it.

yatapina · 17/03/2020 12:18

My employer has got back to me - they've agreed now that I, and they need to accept NHS and government advice at this stage.

Just to hear back from DH's now!

So many people will be in this position causing unnecessary stress and anxiety, I agree @Terryscombover we need legal frameworks now.

We have two people in the office coughing. Two others who have admitted they have children at home with a fever but "it's just normal toddler stuff". One person challenged them about whether they should be in the office and they were mocked and belittled. It's awful.

Another woman had a tantrum because she's been asked to collect her child with high temp from nursery.

No guidance from employer about moving to WFH. Most of us could do so. No strong leadership telling coughing people to leave. If I didn't need the money, I'd have quit.
