Self isolation confused about walks and shops
EllieRay · 17/03/2020 09:33
Sorry if this seems obvious, just to be clear we are self isolating for 14 days as of yesterday after 2 members with temp and flu like symptoms... fine with that but...
We have a dog and my DH woke at 5:30 to get up and take her out so he didn't see anyone. Is this ok? Seems extremely cruel to not walk a dog for 14 days if you can avoid busy walks/times.
And we have a bit of food supplies in but we are not going to last 14 days.... we have no family locally and elderly relatives are also in isolation anyway and can't get a supermarket delivery for weeks. How are we supposed to get food?

There are lots of people
Offering support on social media. Check for a local Facebook group and ask for help.
Re dog walking. In theory no, you're not meant to leave the house. But if you are then 5:30am is time to do it. Make sure they don't touch anything outside (human not dog) and if they do see anyone then move away

You can't go to shops since that involves contact with others.
YoursTunbridgeWells · 17/03/2020 09:37
I tihnk you are allowed to go to shops if needed - though not advisable.
chartreuse · 17/03/2020 09:37
You can go out to walk your dog, just keep 1-2 meters away from anyone else you might encounter
HasaDigaEebowai · 17/03/2020 09:37
No you are specifically told not to go to the shops. You have to ask others to assist you or get deliveries.
JigsawsAreCool · 17/03/2020 09:40
You can not go to shops.
Get home delivery. Phone local shop and ask if they will leave on doorstep if you bank transfer money.
Do you have friends? Neighbours? Acquaintances?
PayPal them money and get them to leave shopping on doorstep
YoursTunbridgeWells · 17/03/2020 09:40
No the advise says you should stay at home. Of course you shouldn't go out but it's not a legal requirement.

SapphireSalute · 17/03/2020 09:42
of course you can go to shops.....how else will you eat?
HepzibahGreen · 17/03/2020 09:42
It's on the BBC news.
Yes, you can walk your dog (or yourself) at any time as long as you stay away from people.
No you can't go to shops.

If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, other than exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others. The 14-day period starts from the day the first person in your house became ill.
YoursTunbridgeWells · 17/03/2020 09:48
So you can still go out if absolutely needed to buy food. Again you shouldn't
JigsawsAreCool · 17/03/2020 09:51
I think people going out to buy food when they think they have it is incredibly selfish. Unless they have exhausted every other offer of help. Including positing on facebook and asking for help. Lots of local areas have groups set up to help this. Ask onna school whaysapp group etc. People will help at a time like this. People WANT to help they want to feel useful. Makes them feel better about things.
Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 09:53
Go out but you must keep your distance from people.
Being in the countryside or anywhere with lots of air and space will be fine, popping into the newsagent at peak time queuing cheek by jowl, touching money, products and counters will not
squishedgrapes · 17/03/2020 09:55
Family members without symptoms can go out for exercise, so do t see why you can't walk the dog really

Someone posted this earlier. I copied it because I think it is quite helpful.
