High risk isolater, but what about school?

If i am now isolating due to having 2 chronic conditions, does anyone know what rights there are to keep my 6 year off school? There is absolutely no point in me isolating if my son is going to school every day and bringing germs home is there. I've not sent him in today. I was meant to be going in to do some work (voluntary) with the children today, so i phoned to say I could now no longer do due to Boris' announcement for high risk types and that my boy would not be attending today. I work part time (and have been told to wfh) and can effectively home school him 4 days a week, and then 3 days he will have to do his own thing a fair amount (he loves educational games on the computer, and will make a den and play quite nicely on his own now). I am a school governor, so worry about how is looks, but at the end of the day a live mother surely has to trump missing a few weeks of school. He is ahead at school and I will make sure he keeps learning anyway. I think schools will be closed within about 10 days anyway. Gosh, this really stinks (i have at least got my affairs in order and wishes known as a result should the worst happen).

I think you're doing the right thing, I'm doing the same. School is going to be disrupted for the foreseeable anyway with all the self isolation and things, and like you say they'll probably close soon.

A few parents with high risk conditions have withdrawn their kids for now, the headteacher has apparently been fine with it.

I'm guessing it will help the schools carry on for longer if they have fewer kids in, they'll be able to merge classes once they start to lose staff to self isolation.

You do not need to completely isolate yourself yet. If you are at very high risk you will be contacted by someone from the NHS, be that a GP, asthma nurse etc, and advised what to do from Monday 23rd. You should follow the social distancing rules until then, ie no social contact and wfh if you can.

Have you any support locally OP?
Any neighbours to do your shopping?

Yes I have support. My husband is still working in his office, but he is setup ready to work from home as soon as they let him. My work said wfh as of today to anyone who can. I had my freak out about this back in early February and made sure I had enough bits in (and a will), medication can only get for a month.

I might not have been so quick to cancel things, but someone let slip that my boys teacher is having to self-isolate as been in contact with a confirmed case so worried after having been in yesterday. Hopefully she wasn't incubating anything last week. (ive been feeling like i have the start of a sore throat, breathlessness and coughed a few times since, but I believe this is psychosomatic as my syptoms started within half hour of being told about his teacher! - am working on my anxiety levels).
