Friend upset about engagement party and me self isolating
Acidrain · 17/03/2020 08:40
I am a bridesmaid for my friend, me and DS and DH are self isolating with a cough as me and DS have a cold and a persistent cough started last night.
I've rang work to inform them and ask advice and they said to self isolate and protect my work colleges and everyone else (secretly they are annoyed as my 2 weeks annual leave finished yesterday and I came down with a cough last night, which is typical)
I've informed my friend that we're not gonna be able to come to her party on Saturday and she's saying surely 5 days is enough, I have a cold which is causing a cough but I can't go as if work and I could spread this 'Cough' to the 70 people that are going to the engagement party. How do I explain this to her gently without causing her to go all bridezilla? (her venue will not let her cancel without losing all her money, she's tried)
Msloverlover · 17/03/2020 08:42
Seriously??? What about “avoiding social gatherings” is she not getting?
PurpleDaisies · 17/03/2020 08:43
Nobody will be going to the party. It’s against the new advice.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/03/2020 08:43
Just tell her no! If she wants the best chance of her wedding actually happening then she should rejoice that her some of her guests are thinking of her and staying away.
Etinox · 17/03/2020 08:46
Advice to everyone.
Everything is going to be cancelled. Don’t be the first to tell your friend you’re not going to their party, or French class, or the opera. It’s not happening.
Figgygal · 17/03/2020 08:47
Her party isn’t going to happen anyway so it won’t just be you
Acidrain · 17/03/2020 08:49
The fact the venue won't refund any of her £1000 and won't let her postpone it!
She's gutted as her maid of honor is in Plymouth in the Navy so cannot travel here in the first place and now me as her bridesmaid can't come!
I feel sorry for her but she's just not getting it!
PurpleDaisies · 17/03/2020 08:52
It’s fine for her to be gutted. I would be too. It isn’t fine for the party to go ahead.
YakkityYakYakYak · 17/03/2020 08:59
She spent £1000 on an engagement party? Blimey!
It’s totally okay for her to be upset and disappointed. It’s not okay for her to put it on you. She’s needs to just cancel the party really but I’m sure the matter will be taken out of her hands soon.

yanbu but very sensible and following advice. it's awful for her and her dhtb but it's awful for everyone. did they have any insurance for this sort of thing happening ? [misses point of thread]
tara66 · 17/03/2020 09:22
She may be able to get something back from venue on their insurance?
