Are you a teacher?

Just wanted to ask teachers, have you been asked to prepare for the possibility of closure?

I have seen a few teachers mention that they have, I just wondered if there are any that haven't yet been asked to do so.

I think most teaching staff have been asked to do so. Although we're still as much in the dark as everyone else about whether schools will actually close.

I am a teacher and currently self isolating with symptoms. Spoke to HT on Sunday when it started and she said only 3 of us were off. By the end of yesterday it had risen to 9. We all really want school to stay open as we have so many children at risk when they are at home and lots who depend on the free meals as well as all the children whose parents need to work.

We have a plan to have up to 35 children in each class but this still relies on minimum number of staff which soon we may not have, especially now that the advice is isolation for up to 14 days.

@ThisIsNotARealAvo

Have you been asked to prepare for closure though? I understand why schools should stay open, although I have taken mine out already, I'm just pondering really about whether anyone hasn't been told!

On a personal level I think that if people who can take their kids out do it will release some pressure on schools (to have bigger classes etc) and lower the risk somewhat. Preparing home learning must just be adding to the pressure of the teachers at an already difficult time :(

Yes we have. We're getting logins ready for online learning and have been instructed to WFH in the event of closures. So we'll be putting up videos of ourselves teaching and putting up work on things like ClassDojo and marking remotely.

I work in a college and we kind of have.
I also work teaching staff in hospitals though and am currently trying to get the classes cancelled. They are non essential, put me at risk and take staff away from their posts. Would you still go or demand they are cancelled?

We have. More instructions coming today but we have been told to check all students have their log ins for the various apps we use and we have to start preparing stuff.
I’m slightly frazzled by the extra work.

Yes. My school has already had to partially close because of staff shortages. We’re expecting to be gone by Friday.

SachaStark · 17/03/2020 08:09

We have had a training session on using the online learning platform favoured by our school, but no suggestion of imminent closure yet.

We’ve also been told by our head not to prepare extra resources for work at home for those students whose parents have chosen to take them out already, with no just cause. This is for our mental health and well-being.

When the schools eventually close, that’s when we will be allowed to send work home.
