Anyone else had work refuse WFH?

My job can easily, easily be done from home. We all have a laptop ready to go in case Boris orders companies to let people WFH. My company are yet to agree it and everyone has been told to go in today as normal. It's a large company with in the region of 500 staff working in offices in close proximity. I have a feeling they won't allow it unless they have no choice. They hate people working from home for reasons they've never been able to explain.
They're cunts right?

Yeah I was a bit annoyed today that so many were in that could work from home . It seams unless you have a valid reason ie live with someone with health condition then you are in work . The wfh is in place if lockdown is forced . One person got sent home with a cough which made everyone uneasy . I feel it's only a matter of time before I or a member of my family get it .

I spoke to my work today as well and seems they finally have started taking things seriously, I'm waiting to hear if I can start working from home, surely having a child with a weak immune system and a mama with severely bad asthma and anemic would deem me high risk

MinesAPintOfTea · 17/03/2020 22:31

We each individually have to discuss with our line managers. Mine said "yes, go and wfh" and they started making provision for those staff with desktops to get them on the VPN and sent home in taxis (because no scope to get extra laptops right now). But some leadership from the CEO would have been nice rather than this dithering.

My husband usually works out of the office 4 days a week. With client visits cancelled, hes been told he has to be office based Hmm

BrieAndChilli · 17/03/2020 22:37

Has your work provided you with laptops? I only have a PC at work and there are no spare laptops. Those that have laptop are allowed to wfh.
There’s me and another going in at the moment but she thinks this is all an over reaction and even though has asthma is not making any changes to her life.

I'm a 29 weeks' pregnant ft 1:1 SEN HLTA. I'm self-isolating but probably won't get paid. Due to the nature of my job it's not possible to work from home or be put in a role that doesn't have contact with children. Totally fed up.

TARSCOUT · 17/03/2020 22:45

I am working from home. I hate it. I want back to the office.

KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2020 22:45

Luckily mine messaged not long after Boris's announcement so I have been at home. So reckless asking people to go in for no reason.

Surely they can't have faith in their line managers if their line managers can't tell if staff are not actually working when at home?

EnglishRain · 17/03/2020 22:55

I work from home a day a week usually but work won't let me do more. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I have OCD. I have recently come to the realisation that they are bastards, this is merely the cherry on top.

EnglishRain · 17/03/2020 22:55

Oh. And it's an NHS hospital I work for 😳🙄

Screamingontheinside · 17/03/2020 23:02

I work in a GP practice, patient facing role. I am diabetic and I asked if I could wfh remotely doing admin and was told that I could just sit in a room somewhere in the surgery or go home and get paid ssp. I can’t afford that so I need to make a choice over my health or my wages. That’s the caring profession for you

MinesAPintOfTea · 18/03/2020 06:24

@BrieAndChilli yes, I am WFH with a laptop, but those with desktops were told by local management to take them home with them, and where those people don't have cars, the company paid for them to take them home in taxis. Obviously still company property, but with the expectation being of it being recommended to wfh for at least 12 weeks, they wanted to get everyone home with computers for staff well-being and before going into the office is banned.
