Like many of us would be im volunteering to shop for my neighbours (im about start a whole CF thread based on this too) and have already gone shopping for one lady who is symptomatic. Some people have no one go for them and are just stuck we wll need to pull together.
How should money work as money changing hands could to cross infection. Many of my neighbours who are older don't have an internet connection as I could do balance transfers. I also can't afford to shop for people on credit. I asked my local shops to give me credit for people but they won't. I want to help but trying to work out the best way. Any ideas

They do a click and collect order? They order and pay by phone?

mollymoggs · 17/03/2020 06:34

You wear gloves and when you come back you just put the change on the side or into their purse?

Seventyone72seventy3 · 17/03/2020 06:36

Or you could money into a jar of vinegar? Grin Sorry, reading a book about the plague in Eyam and that's what they do. I would go with gloves.

Undecided91 · 17/03/2020 06:37

Just wear them single use plastic gloves! If anyone was this panicky we wouldnt have cashiers ar the shops anymore

PeterPanGoesWrong · 17/03/2020 08:36

Avoid touching your face. Or ask for the money to be in a ziplock bag.

Sunflower1987 · 17/03/2020 09:19

Just ask for the money in a money bag or small container. In the shops just make sure you gel your hands after paying then wash with soap and water as soon as you are home

just5morepeas · 17/03/2020 09:24

Wear gloves, that's all you can do really.

Maybe have a separate bsg/purse you only use for these errands.

You're doing a lovely thing btw. Flowers

Where are the neighbours going to get the money from? They'd need to go out to a cash point to get it......

skybluee · 17/03/2020 09:28

I guess if the neighbours can only pay by cash, the best thing to do is to ask them to put it in a container, then place it outside or in a cupboard for a week or so.

If you need the money sooner bc that isn't feasible, then Dettol it and leave it to air dry, while wearing gloves.

Money is quite a vector, so I actually don't think you're being unreasonable here.

It's better to be over cautious than under cautious.

Thank you for helping people out in this situation.

I live alone and I have two underlying heath conditions. For the first time in my life, I actually am a bit scared about something like this. I have to do everything myself, and my friends and family are all long distance.

MauriceandAlec · 17/03/2020 09:39

Use gloves! There's a Coronavirus CF thread to join.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 17/03/2020 09:42

Tbf they should be more worried about handling stuff you give them then the other way around...

crazydiamond222 · 17/03/2020 09:42

I would wash your hands or use sanitiser after handling any money.

Notimeforaname · 17/03/2020 09:43

Yup just use gloves. Fair play to you helping your neighbours!

Happy Paddy's Day to all 🍀

Stinkycatbreath · 17/03/2020 19:58

It was all triggered by my lovely neighbour knocking on her window as I was getting my son out of the car to tell me she was self isolating feeling ill and her son who lives just roind the corner wouldn't get her some milk for a brew. I passed on my number and got her the milk. Ill get more for her tomorrow and some food to. I sont mind getting the money when she emerges from hibernation but ive volunteered with church to do this for others but nobody has thought about money. We can't just let people rot.

I'd maybe speak to the supermarket/s where you're planning to do the shopping and ask if they could take payment over the phone for these transactions.

JewelTheft · 17/03/2020 20:42

If it's just small amounts, cam you take a contact less card (if they have one) and pay via contavtless, giving it a wipe with detol if you feel it's necessary.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 17/03/2020 21:46

It's lovely what you do op
