Self isolate?

My 8 month old started with a cough yesterday and a high temp. Currently up with him as he can’t sleep for long. His nose has now started running, which I don’t think is a symptom of corona. Still, I think the current advice is for the household to self isolate if anyone in it has a cough or fever? I do have a previous thread where I have my suspicions I may have already had CV a couple of weeks back along with my baby but I can’t be sure. Not sure what I should do?

Yes you should self isolate for 2 weeks.

My two year old and five year old both have coughs so we are doing the same. I’m dreading it to be honest and feel guilty about not going into work (I’m a teacher and the school is already struggling with staff absence) but the guidance is clear on this.

DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2020 03:41

If in any doubt whatsoever I'd self-isolate. I know it'll be hard. Hope your little one is feeling better soon.

EssentialStaffOrNot · 17/03/2020 04:37

I'd self isolate.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 04:38

Self isolate for two weeks

Pentium85 · 17/03/2020 05:06

I bang my head against the wall multiple times a day at threads like this.

What part of the NHS/Governments crystal clear advice don’t people understand?

If you have a new fever and/or a cough, self isolate.

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 05:18

@Pentium85 because the advice if you read it isn’t clear ENOUGH. As you understand it can you explain to me: If you read the guidance it says 14days but further in says the first person can return after 7days with the rest of the household still in isolation until 14days- which is it?

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 05:21

@Pentium85 this is confusing??

Self isolate?
ChangingStates · 17/03/2020 05:22

It's not the first person can leave after 7 days. It's this-
New cough and / or temperature whole household isolates for 14 days. 7 days is only if you live alone.

Pentium85 · 17/03/2020 05:25

@twinnywinny14

It’s both.

If you have symptoms, you self isolate for 7 days. The remainder of the family who are asymptomatic isolate for 14 days. Thanks

ChangingStates · 17/03/2020 05:25

Clearly there is confusion then because what I stated is from BBC news site

Anyone with a fever or persistent cough should stay at home for seven days if they live alone or 14 days if they live with others. Anyone who lives with someone displaying coronavirus symptoms should also stay at home for 14 days. People who have to isolate themselvess* should ask others for help

And that is different to what PP has posted. What was your source PP?

Igotthemheavyboobs · 17/03/2020 05:27

I think that's pretty clear tbh, the reason the first person can go back to normal after 7 days and not the others is due to the incubation period before symptoms show. The first person has already had the symptoms so doesn't need to stay in for 14 days.

Pentium85 · 17/03/2020 05:32

@ChangingStates

My source is the NHS and government websites... not the bloody BBC!

Pentium85 · 17/03/2020 05:33

@Igotthemheavyboobs

Thanks for explaining it much better than I did!

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 05:35

@Pentium85 and @ChangingStates I think the point is proven, it’s confusing as the headlines are saying whole family for 14days but actually it’s the ill person for 7days and the rest of the family for 14days- have I got that right now?

Pentium85 · 17/03/2020 05:36

@twinnywinny14

Yes. Because the rest of the family need that extra time to show whether they have any symptoms, whereas the person in isolation for 7 days already has the symptoms

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 05:36

I understand why but that is not what is being followed- people are seeing this as 14days for everyone which is likely to have a bigger impact than just 7 days

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 05:39

Not helped by nhs 111 showing different advise to the PHE document

CupoTeap · 17/03/2020 05:42

Arguing is fine however you all agree that the op needs to isolate herself and the baby right? Good.

Op yes isolation is the advice. This time next week when the first 7 days is up the advice might be different so I'd check then what it is and follow.

Hope the baby feels better soon.

PurpleThistles84 · 17/03/2020 07:52

Thanks, I have woken up with a sore throat myself now so we will be self isolating.

I would add that if I lived in an area with many cases, I wouldn’t have posted this, however my area is very remote and only has two confirmed cases in other places within the area. It seems extremely unlikely the baby or myself have it, especially as I have my suspicions that we may have had it already. Regardless, we will be self isolating.

mylittleavalon · 17/03/2020 15:29

Hello @PurpleThistles84 I think you may be in the same place as me (only 2 cases) and in the same situation except I don't have a cough/fever, nor does my 8 month old, but I'm very remote and have no reason to see anyone so pretty much self isolating tbh, Just wondering how you are going to survive and help your baby through it? Any tips. Also to say hope it goes well xx
