Can I see my family?!

I’m 34 years old, and have a new baby age 5 weeks.

I have what I what describe as mild asthma.
It’s never really caused me any problems and there have been many times where I haven’t taken any inhalers for it.
I do have an annual asthma review and I have the annual flu jab as I qualify so act on the side of caution.

So I’m guessing this means I am one of the people that has to social distance for 12 weeks?

I’m finding this really overwhelming and I’m so anxious.

I have an appointment with the health visitor as my house this week. Should I cancel this now?

I usually see my mum a few times per week, so I now need to drop this?

Hubby goes to work, how will that affect me?

I really am so petrified 😔

Dont be petrified my lovely. This is all to protect you & babe.

The contact they want people to limit is none essential contact ... im a senior nurse and my advice to you is that you keep your HV appointment.
You need her ongoing support in this situation - do you have a good relationship with your HV ?

How old is your mum ?

chicken2015 · 17/03/2020 00:28

Just wanted to post, i don't know what to suggest, i am asthmatic so self isolating as family, husband and 2 girls (3 and 1). Im anxious for different reason 3 has autism non verbal so concerned about that , could u speak to HV on phone before appointment?

highlandcoo · 17/03/2020 00:29

Hello OP and first of all congratulations on your new baby Flowers

I'm sorry that what should be a happy time is turning out to be so stressful. One good thing is that children seem not to be badly affected by this virus.

I think talking to your health visitor would be very helpful. Can you contact her before the visit by phone or email for an initial chat? I'm sure her attention to hygiene will be excellent if you do decide to see her at home. She'll be well qualified to advise you on your questions.

Also hormones will b all over place so possibly making u free worse

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls

I’ve only met my health visitor once and that was before baby was born.
She’s coming this week for a catch up and to weigh baby.

I also have a hospital appointment Friday for my daughter she’s been struggling to gain weight. I’m also considering cancelling this.

My mum is 56.

WHO do include asthma in the category ofpeople who are vulnerable... my DH has severe asthma and we have found the UK asthma website really helpful for advice & support.

If you have an asthma review coming up it will be a really good opportunity to get your asthma plan together- we found that really helpful when DH has an attack last night because it gives really clear guidance as to what action to take.

Notverygrownup · 17/03/2020 00:31

What a lovely reply, Ifonly.

OP congratulations on your dd. This is not the start in life that you wanted for her, but follow Ifonly's advice, and keep yourselves safe. 12 weeks seems like a long time, but China had everything under control in less time than that, so hopefully this is a worst case scenario and you will soon be outside playing in the sun with your little one.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 00:36

Unless you baby or your DH have symptoms my advice is to keep your hospital appt ... these appointments are ideal opportunities for you to get support and outpatient clinics are taking really good measures to protect people.

Remember it's social contact we need to avoid - monitoring of yours and baby's health is necessary.

What other support do you have ? Are you in contact with antenatal mums ?

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 00:36

@Notverygrownup ditto !

www.bbc.com/news/health-51873799

Iv tried to link a good article the BBC published this morning, im hoping it works .

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 00:45

The link has worked - OP please have a read through this article. It addresses the anxiety that coronavirus will cause for people and offers some ideas .

Again I would advise keeping your HV appt , I know they sometimes have a bad press on Mumsnet but your HV could be your lifeline through this.

I say that as a health professional who was very isolated for different reasons when my baby was born and she was my rock .

Pixxie7 · 17/03/2020 00:59

The health visitor will stay away if necessary. Try and relax and enjoy being a mum. X
