How often do you cough

If you have the dry cough, how often are you actually coughing?

I keep coughing, twice cough cough at least every minute - it's driving me nuts!!

But that's all, I've no temp or feeling unwell - just an irritated throat cough.

I have wondered this too.
Are you self isolating in this instance then, or not? I think some guidance should be released about the mild form of the illness because I think people expect to be sweating, coughing their lungs up and feeling like death if it's really corona. The reality is most of us will get it mildly which is probably a tickle cough, a mild fever etc - things that if we weren't all hyper aware we probably wouldn't notice or bother about. And we certainly wouldn't stay off work for!

chocolatespiders · 17/03/2020 06:48

The advice was a cough or a fever or both. But I have been asleep so it may have changed again.
Cough sounds really annoying, would hot honey and lemon help?

Helenj1977 · 17/03/2020 06:48

A continuous cough lasts more then half a day.

happywhips · 17/03/2020 06:49

I think I had this at the end of feb, every time I breathed in at night I coughed it was much worse at night.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/03/2020 06:50

That is a continuous/persistent cough then

Ricketyswimmer · 17/03/2020 06:52

I have a very mild cough - tickly - every couple of hours maybe. I wouldn't class it as continuous/persistent. I don't know if I should isolate or not.

OverMy · 17/03/2020 07:05

Same for fever. How high counts? Anything over 37? It was 37.8.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/03/2020 10:23

37.8 upwards

OverMy · 17/03/2020 12:04

Thank you

I suddenly developed a dry cough yesterday - coughing every 10 minutes or so but no raised temp. I have normal cold symptoms too such as watery eyes and runny nose so haven't a clue what to do for the best. I'm in risk group for heart disease so staying home but not sure if I should isolate from rest of family or just presume it's a common cold!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2020 12:16

@Ricketyswimmer I am the same. I am 'clearing my throat' more than coughing. I am very worried about it but I don't know what to do for the best. I am going to monitor it for a few hours as I'm not actually going out anywhere and Dh is picking the kids up

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2020 12:17

Interesting discussion about the cough on bbc news right now

OBface · 17/03/2020 12:18

Izitso - you and your family need to self isolate for 14 days. Advice is very clear. Either a new cough OR a temperature.

Please stay at home.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2020 12:19

He said the continuos cough is a dry (unproductive) cough, no phlegm, and continuous cough means it doesn't come and go it is eg. Repetitive every 1/2/5 minutes and for example is waking you at night (because it is continuous)
Not that you are coughing continually with no breaks.

DrMaryMalone · 17/03/2020 12:21

Is the virus really only a dry cough? My 2 year old is off nursery with a cough today but it's very phlegm laden after having a snotty nose for the last week and worse after he has been lying down to nap or has been eating or running around. Outside of those he coughs a couple of times an hour. No raised temperature so gut feeling is its a common cold but latest advice will have the household self isolating for 2 weeks.

Helenj1977 · 17/03/2020 12:24

Someone on BBC said it will wake you up.

It's a cough or high temp.

LoveSummerLife · 17/03/2020 13:14

drmarymalone I’m wondering this too. Ds2 had a dry cough, coughing every 10-15 minutes throughout Sunday and yesterday, today it sounds chesty and he’s coughing maybe once every 3 hours.
