If someone is ignoring the requirement to self isolate

Should it be reported somewhere? Any idea who to? Keep my nose out? Will they get in some kind or trouble?

My cousin has 1 child. Cousin has started with a dry cough, but is carrying on as normal including sending child to school.

Guidance is now whole household to isolate for 14 days if one person starts with symptoms.

I'd just ignore. Who would you report too?

You only need to read the daily mail comments to see how many coughing spluttering people are going to work tomorrow because they won't survive on £94 sick pay.

fairynick · 16/03/2020 22:16

My DM is a dinner lady and half of her kitchen are coughing and spluttering trying to hide it because they are frightened to death of being sent home for a week or two because they can’t afford it. I don’t see a solution to it tbh.

bingbangbing · 16/03/2020 22:25

And this why the advice is pointless.

We're not shutting down because it will cost too much. We can't afford it.

Which is shit, really

lljkk · 16/03/2020 22:25

98% chance it's not covid

roobledoo · 16/03/2020 22:31

Let us not become a society of people who snitch and report people, the self isolation is advice not a law so can not be legally enforced.
Perhaps have an honest chat with your cousin, say you're concerned? Ensure she is following all hygiene tips

Hoping it's just a cough to do with change of seasons and not covid Thanks

I had a slight temperature& sore throat on Friday night - I am totally better today! But the advice says I shouldn’t go to work (if i don’t go I don’t get paid) my rent is 670£ - the 94£ Ssp a week won’t help at all.

What the fuck am I supposed to do

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 23:01

Kaptenkrusty I know where I'd be going in your situation.

Rhymes with twerk...

Wont say it or the lynch mob will be on my back Smile

Interesting reactions. Makes me more nervous as I'd assumed everyone would follow advise and self isolate if showing symptoms. Glad I'm not high risk but I guess I won't be seeing some family (who are high risk) for quite some time.

I read that Virgin Atlantic have asked their staff to take 8-12 weeks unpaid leave and whilst I know it’s not Virgins fault that this is happening, or any employers fault for that matter, then Virgin have more than enough money to pay their staff and it’s not fair, also councils and housing associations are going to have to let their low income tenants away with not paying rent if they can’t work.

What’s your thoughts on people not getting paid from their employers due to not being able to work? I don’t mean small businesses etc but I do mean companies like Virgin etc.

Inappropriatefemale · 17/03/2020 06:39

I’m not high risk and I work from home anyway but my job involves lots of contact and so I am going to have to stop this, or at least minimise my work so that minimal contact is needed.

I am terrified about what all this means.

MrsWombat · 17/03/2020 06:43

If the child is coughing at school they will send them home and won't let them return.

Tootletum · 17/03/2020 06:46

My DS coughs all winter , they know that at school.

suriv · 17/03/2020 07:48

It's disgusting what virgin have done. I fear we will lose many small businesses though. And this will kill off the high street once and for all.

Inappropriatefemale · 17/03/2020 08:02

I understand that small businesses may not have the cash to pay staff when they’re not working but Virgin is despicable, they’re a multimillionaire/billionaire company for Fucksake and I don’t think air stewards are paid lots so the chances of them having savings are slim, if I was one of those folks then I would claim benefits and Virgin could do the folks a favour and tell the DWP that they sacked them otherwise benefits won’t be allowed when a person quits their job, it’s a fucking nightmare and I predict more women, and possibly men, will resort to drastic measures to get money, ie sex work, and the issue is that that job carries more risk of catching this virus, it’s a catch 22 all round.Sad
