Anyone keeping their kids off school anyway?

I work in a school and have children myself. Most of our classes today were only 3/4 full. Many parents have decided to keep children off even though there are no plans to close schools...yet

Have you decided to keep yours off?

Yes

RhymingRabbit3 · 16/03/2020 22:03

My daughter isn't going to preschool tomorrow. If I had kids in school I wouldnt be sending them in - possibly an exception for GCSE year 11 students but probably nor

moveandmove · 16/03/2020 22:07

No, mine is going in until they officially close.

Yes. DS with SN, and DD with SN terrified of infecting DS. Today was a bit frenetic whilst we tried to organise ourselves a bit

I work for an FE college and we were told today we will close on Thursday. I’ll take my DC out of school then.

I’m much more worried today than I was a few days ago.

Yes. My son is 4.5 years old in the nursery year of a primary school. We phoned in sick for him today... said he'd got the runs. But now I want to tell them the real reason why. Think its important that they know, but I was quite worried they would judge me for removing him!

NellyGrace · 16/03/2020 22:11

Yes

ChrissieKeller61 · 16/03/2020 22:11

Yes, I can’t risk it

AygoHomeNow · 16/03/2020 22:11

We have just had an email from school saying that it's up to parents whether they consider travel to school to be 'essential'....

cowfacemonkey · 16/03/2020 22:12

I don't know I'm leaning towards keeping them off although I have to work. They are old enough to be OK alone for a few hours so I'm tempted to keep them off and then tell work I will be off after this week. I can see my work closing down by Easter anyway and the same for school so I'm just not seeing the point in keeping everything "normal" for the sake of a couple of weeks.

I have lost all faith in the way the government have handled things. The lack of clear advice has been shocking.

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 16/03/2020 22:13

Yes I took him out at the end of last week. Absences are being authorised nationwide.

ChequerBoard · 16/03/2020 22:13

Yes, my two (Y8 and Y12) staying at home from this morning. DH has serious heart condition, school informed us over the weekend that they have 4 suspected cases in the school population. We just can't risk it. School have been really supportive of our decision.

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 16/03/2020 22:15

Yes.

Dockray · 16/03/2020 22:18

Yes- 2 dc have asthma, one of whom had a hospital admission and course of steroids last month. I'm not risking it. Dh didn't agree but seeing the latest advice I feel even more certain it is the right thing.

Drivemybluecar · 16/03/2020 22:19

No. My son is doing his gcse. He has been ill this year and missed a ton of school. He will go in until they close.
