I have anxiety and am worried i'll be told off or something.

Me and DS1 have a cough.

So as per the new advice we ALL have to self isolate for 14 days right?

Also can I ask for worksheets and stuff? What about high-school, will they provide them?

I'm just a bit worried about the whole conversation

Yes - you all have to isolate for 14 days. It might be tricky getting work from school atm. If it’s anything like our school we are flat out teaching with reduced staff and trying to prepare for the (inevitable) whole scale shut down. We are not able to provide work for those who are self isolating - we simply have no capacity to prepare that.

Hope you all feel better soon.

HairyMaclary · 16/03/2020 21:43

Ps - you won’t be told off, just leave a message in the absence line, most schools have them now, and say you have a cough and are self isolating as advised.

Random18 · 16/03/2020 21:45

Why are you stressed about speaking to the school? You are following official advice and school would send DS home anyway.

I would imagine theny would be happy to get some work sorted although it may take a few days.

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 21:45

Please don't panic.
This is the rigid mind think thrown at us coming back to bite them on the arse

So so many people are grateful if you keep sick dc away!!

I know I am, grateful for myself, for my other students, staff and my network back home, you keeping your dc off is me not being infected and keeping mine safe and s on

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/03/2020 21:45

If you have a cough, it’s seven days. It’s 14 for anyone who lives with you without a cough (incubation + cough time).

UnexpectedItemInTheShaggingAre · 16/03/2020 21:45

You won’t get in any trouble but schools are on skeleton staff and pepping extra work probably won’t be happening sorry x

Grasspigeons · 16/03/2020 21:45

Can you email?
As per government advice we will be isoltaing for 14 days.
They might have learning things to send out. Our teachers have prepared 1 week of activities and told us to send thrm to anyone self isolating but other schools might not have had time yet.

SallyLovesCheese · 16/03/2020 21:46

Ring them now, I'm sure you can leave a message. Say you both have a cough and are self-isolating for 14 days. You absolutely won't get told off (well, you'd better bloomin' not be)!

Bridecilla · 16/03/2020 21:46

I echo what @Hairy said. We have no capacity this week to make extras. Next week when / if we shut we'll provide work

Letseatgrandma · 16/03/2020 21:46

If you asked any of the teaching staff at my school for worksheets tomorrow, they will probably burst into tears.

We will have 3 pregnant teachers now off, 1 diabetic teacher off and 3 with transplant/cancer/respiratory issues now off.

The supply agency hasn’t got any more staff for tomorrow. If we have any more off, we will have to close.

MissFrizzleIAmNot · 16/03/2020 21:47

Argh. So what are the kids supposed to do for 2 weeks? Especially the eldest ones. Half they shit they talk about from school I don't understand. I won't be able to teach them anything

Get them to google. Needs must. Someone said on another thread (mine) paraphrasing...

parent's expectations of teachers are endless but our time is not

AppleKatie · 16/03/2020 21:51

They will have textbooks?
Research and revise their topics. Get them to teach it to you, prepare lessons to help you understand their school work.

Or else if you are all Ill give it up and let them watch Netflix and play games for a few days.

bettyboo40 · 16/03/2020 21:51

How old are they? If the eldest is due to sit external exams this year he should already have lots of revision he can do.

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 21:51

So what are the kids supposed to do for 2 weeks?

It’s likely to be much much longer than 2 weeks.

zowiewowie · 16/03/2020 21:52

I had the conversation today. I had the cough. His teacher was real supportive and said I wasn’t the only one and although at the time of the conversation this morning, the advice was that my son could have gone to school, I was fine to keep him off as I have no one to do the school run for me. Definitely no chance of being fined and they didn’t send any work.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 21:53

Those who want worksheets.

Twinkl do free ones to print off and are very good.

missnevermind · 16/03/2020 21:53

We gave had an email this evening from the school. It was closed today for deep cleaning. It is reminding us that the school is open tomorrow but if anybody in the family has a temperature or cough to now stay off for 14 days.

Littlebookwormiam · 16/03/2020 21:56

Call the school and inform them you've developed a new cough and are following guidelines and will be self isolating for the next 2 weeks. Dont be nervous you're absolutely doing the right thing and the school will fully support your decision.

forkfun · 16/03/2020 21:56

I've emailed my school tonight saying we are self-isolating because one of mine is coughing. Already heard back saying it's fine, teachers will be in touch soon. In the meantime just keep up with reading and spelling (year 2). My year 8 child has lots of stuff to be getting on with in their learning platform. It'll be fine. Missing a few weeks of school is not the end of the world.

Scbchl · 16/03/2020 22:00

We have been emailed by the primary school and it says there is work being uploaded for each class to the school website for kids who are off. So they may well provide work.

Mitzdob · 16/03/2020 22:01

I don't expect the school to provide worksheets, but I am going to ask for books to be sent home.

BBC bitesize is great and there are plenty of online portals for maths etc, fun games but teaching also.

Other than that - teach them to bake, sew, garden, write a diary, blog it.

So many possibilities- maybe we should have a thread for ideas of activities.

IsolationMum · 16/03/2020 22:02

I got loads of stuff from
Twinkl
Khan Academy
BBC Bitesize
