Ideas of things to do at home during self-isolation/social distancing?
daffodilsandblossom · 16/03/2020 21:23
I thought I would stay a light hearted thread about ideas of how we can keep ourselves sane (!) during the next few months which are bound to be really hard.
What ideas do you have for ways you may spend the time?
I am thinking of purchasing some at-home exercise equipment - maybe a yoga mat and a treadmill to keep fit. Not sure how else to spend this time.
A disclaimer: I know this is a really difficult and upsetting time. I know this self-isolation will have disastrous consequences on people's mental health, relationship, livelihoods and income. I just wanted to make a more lighthearted thread to help come to terms with this.

there is a similar thread going on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a3849089-Stuff-to-do-indoors-for-grown-ups?msgid=94743667#94743667 here OP :)

Organise my clothes. Kitchen cupboards. I may start an online course.
Good idea for a thread.

I have a 3 ye old and a 4 month old and am dreading having to keep them quiet whilst dh works from home. Have coughs so self isolating. So far the activities o have planned are gardening, baking and football in the garden. Need some indoor ideas though!
Sheepareawesome · 16/03/2020 21:30
I might get around to clearing out the crap under the bed....
Knitting, gaming, gardening, weaving, should be quite busy really. I still need to work if possible as I am a hcp. But if I have to do the 14 days isolation then I have enough to do. Oh and look after the kids too! Dh can work from home hopefully, is trying to get the equipment now.

I bought a garden spade, fork, shears and some sunflower seeds and me and the dc will be digging out a small square of soil and planting flowers tomorrow. If the weather stays nice we may even manage a vegetable patch over the next few weeks
Ordered some yarn from Amazon for crochet. Also planning some yoga, forest walks, baking, movie nights, carpet picnics, craft nights and copious amounts of YouTube.

My little boy made an online Random Idea Generator last half term. It’s has a things to do indoors category in it that’s being useful now! It gives you a random idea of an activity to do that he programmed in and he’s always adding things if someone suggests something for him, he’s used up all of his ideas now
He made it for us to use in the hols but I’m so glad of it now we are at home! //www.whatshallwedo.co.uk

I hope I don't have to self-isolate. But if I do I'm thinking I'll do:
One hours pilates on the front room rug every day.
I'll sort out all my clothes, including bras, that don't fit anymore.
I'll start a radical low cal diet and lose a stone.
I'll dye my hair (box dye bought already).
I'll sort out kitchen cupboards.
I'll tidy up the garage.
I'll tidy up the garden and rearrange all the borders so they look like proper defined borders.

Learn to code on the Scratch website.
Get a new qualification through distance learning such as vision2learn.
Declutter.
Read some good books.
Dust off the Zumba x-box game.
Tidy the garden.
Start growing some vegetables.

I’m really grateful for this, I don’t have good mental health and if it wasn’t for my kids I’d probably end it, I have no sense of proportion about this so this is nice, thank you
I’m going to read lots and try and just look after myself. I’ll still be working which will help. Doing all the crafts I never have time to do.

As well as the usual things like gardening, spring cleaning etc, I am into art. I'm not an expert by any means, but I like drawing pictures and turning them into greetings cards.
I also found loads of free simple knitting patterns online (can't do complicated) so can fiddle about with that. I got a lovely selection of bright wools from Amazon.
I have loads of wonderful books to read as well.

I'm going to try and keep my kids learning ( 4 of them in a tiny house will NAHT be easy)
I have cleared out half the garden that currently looks like a amenity tip so I have an outside space to go and breathe when it gets too much.
I might try and work through some of the millions of crafts that I have and haven't done, do some light exercise every day and possibly lose weight, declutter, work through my extensive gin collection
