I'm confused: 29 weeks pregnant, do I self isolate for 2 weeks or 12?

As above really. My company are uninterested in this virus and not taking it seriously. I'm a front of house person and have lots of public contact. Also there's no one else to do my job. Anyway my employers WILL NOT react (have made no plan or anything or provided cleaning or hand sanitiser etc) I will have to push them. I'm confused what is the official line? That I avoid public contact or self isolate? Or work from home? I can do that to an extent.
Thanks for your input. X

I think you need to self isolate until the end of your pregnancy.

Someone posted on another thread a link about self isolating with long term conditions. I took a screenshot of the following. Will try and find the link. Maybe show to your employer?

I should have elaborated. My understanding is that you need to isolate for the next 12 weeks, which will take you past your due date.

I am now self-isolating until told otherwise and I’m 13 weeks. I’m also a teacher. My head, deputy and I discussed it at length.

bobbypinseverywhere · 16/03/2020 21:29

Social distancing is different from self isolating I believe. I think I’ll still be expected to work if they can’t provide a wfh alternative, whereas in self isolation you wouldn’t.

OddshoesOddsocks · 16/03/2020 21:34

34 weeks pregnant here and I have been sent off for maternity leave early. I’m using up the last of my holiday (which needed using anyway luckily) to take me up to what was going to be my official start of maternity leave.

It’s my understanding that we are to self isolate for 12 weeks as a blanket rule for all pregnant women however as that takes us both past our due dates I’m not sure how that works out. Do we self isolate til we give birth and then are ok to go out? Because that seems counterproductive!

I would certainly take this to your boss and insist that it’s taken seriously, if needs be you can take your 2 weeks with immediate effect and tell them that they need to make a plan for the remaining 10 as you’ve been advised by the government not to come back? Surely as it’s a government thing they can’t argue??

BunnyandBee · 16/03/2020 21:34

@bobbypinseverywhere the terminology feels very confusing. I think social distancing to a point where you are avoiding family (as per the table I posted) is essentially self-isolating though.
Also the guidance above doesn't mention the 12 week timeframe , just says this advice is likely to remain in place for several weeks.

bobbypinseverywhere · 16/03/2020 21:48

@BunnyandBee I know I agree - I think they are being deliberately vague. Unfortunately as per the gov advice above - your employers only have to offer wfh if able.

bobbypinseverywhere · 16/03/2020 21:50

Sorry that wasn’t clear - I meant I think they can expect you to go in if there’s no alternative option - for example I’m a GP and I’ll be expected to go in for telephone clinics etc - despite the fact being in the building of a Gp surgery will a hotbed of germs!

Idolovechocolategimmygimmy · 16/03/2020 22:25

Thanks all it is very vague and confusing. I think I can work from home to an extend but it won't be a popular option. They have a duty of care though right? If they make me come in and I get sick isn't that on them?

Thank you for the link I'll have a look now. I couldn't make out the screen shot very well. I need to find a seat to make them listen as I don't think they will unless I really stamp my feet and make a strong case.
