2 kids both primary, one is prone to tonsillitis, snotty, chesty the other slightly older is experiencing a persistent, irratating cough and slight weeze, but nothing else, has no pre existing, would you, under these circumstances keep at home? the youngest was off 2 days last week with raised tonsils and is still v. snotty. just looking for opinions, im worried school might be funny with me. but i also worry i shouldn't be sending them. if ones off theyll expect the other to be off aswell, wint they?

Your second child has a new and persistent cough? Not only do they need to be off but the household needs to be at home for two weeks.
This is hard to imagine I know but that is what we are told to do so I would do it.

Drivemybluecar · 16/03/2020 19:12

As of the rules today your entire family needs to be in isolation for 14 days as of now

calpolatdawn · 16/03/2020 19:20

thanks for the replies, its like a cough where you sound like your trying to clear your throat all the time? not a bark, if that makes a difference, buts its very persistent. im going to turn heating off for bout half an hour and take temperatures.

I can't tell you if your child has coronavirus or not, but I can tell you the instructions from the government is that you and yours need to be in isolation for the next two weeks.
No matter what their temperature is.

bemoreeverything · 16/03/2020 19:31

They are not asking you to analyse the cough. They are saying stay at home for 14 days.

calpolatdawn · 16/03/2020 19:36

im just trying to give an accurate description thats all Confused if thats necessary then of course ill do it

bemoreeverything · 16/03/2020 19:43

Well you know it's necessary.

calpolatdawn · 16/03/2020 19:54

if you're going to be arsy and generally rude why are you on here? its a confusing and scary time for everyone.

I'm not being either. The rules are clear. You posted and then described the cough and said 'if that makes a difference'. It doesn't. So many posts of people trying to diagnose or convince themselves it's something else when all the gov are really asking is if that cough is there to stay at home.

KMoKMo · 16/03/2020 20:13

Take the advice at face value.

Your child has a persistent cough.

Therefore your entire family now isolate for 14 days.

Simple.

Drivemybluecar · 16/03/2020 20:45

I totally understand op. It is scary and I think most people at the moment find it inconceivable that because we have a cough we can’t leave the house for 14 days. Nothing like it ever before.
Keep your children close and try and make the best of it x

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 21:03

@calpolatdawn I wouldn't worry about the school being shitty with you Thanks attendance will be taking a real battering right now.

My sister in laws primary school had 70 pupils off today.

You do what's best, if your children need 14 days off the school are not going to come after you, it's guidelines!

forkfun · 16/03/2020 21:07

My situation is similar to yours. I'm pretty sure one of my kids has just a cold. But I don't know. He's coughing. So we are all staying home for two weeks. It's got to be done.

calpolatdawn · 16/03/2020 22:04

yes,
definitely a real departure from the reaction to swine flu!!!, if it has to done, has to be done, i just wish they would bloody close them.
