What constitutes an underlying health condition?
Flossie44 · 16/03/2020 18:19
I know diabetes, cancer, heart and kidney conditions are under this umbrella. What about auto immune conditions??
Anyone with adrenal insufficiency??
My dd has adrenal insufficiency. Her consultant emailed me this morning to say her immune system makes her no more at risk of getting it. But if she got it, the way she would be treated would be different. He confused me more!!
Both my dd’s and my dh and I have all got asthma. All on preventer and reliever inhalers, often need oral steroids also.
Do the above constitute needing 12 week lockdown?? I’m happy to. I’m just confused!!

according to this article on sky news, news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-what-are-the-underlying-health-conditions-at-greater-risk-from-illness-11958276 , the list is:
Heart disease
Lung disease
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Patients undergoing treatments for cancer
Patients undergoing treatments for autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis (MS) and inflammatory bowel diseases
Patients with HIV
Anyone who has had organ or bone marrow transplants
Asthma sufferers are also thought to be at a greater risk of being worse affected by the virus
hope that helps x

The Scottish government described it as "anyone who normally gets a flu jab"

sorry, didn't read the OP properly. there is more detailed info on asthma itself www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/you-asthma-another-respiratory-problem-17912013 here, although it doesn't state whether you need to go into lockdown, just to take extra precautions. i'm not sure about your dd, sorry again

Oof, that's me! Asthmatic.
unlimiteddilutingjuice · 17/03/2020 07:27
Nicola Sturgeon used those words in her announcement and its repeated on the Scottish Government Website. I'll see if I can find a link.

But just to top
Make sure she has enough medication for her to triple dose at least for the next 14 days. The ADSHG have said to double if sick. And triple if fever over 39
Also make sure she's got say 5-10 emergency injections to see us through the corona virus. Have you injected her before? Do you know how to?
Remember it's an inter muscular injection. It's stings like a bitch! But usually when your near crisis. You don't really care. It's when you've had a short sharp shock that it hurts. But usually with a fever I'm generally not too conscious anyway. So don't worry. Keep your eye. A crisis can come on within 30 mins of being unwell.
ALWAYS. ALWAYS ALWAYS INJECT IF YOU ARE WORRIED. Don't Umm and ahh. If you think she needs it. Then do it. If you've never injected her. Then professor hindmarsh has videos in the great ormond street pages. And the ADSHG (Addison's disease self help group). I volunteer for the U.K. pituitary foundation. They have the endocrine nurse on and as far as I'm aware. She's still there to answer your phone calls. The endocrine society have released documents.
What has your consultant said that has worried you?
