I've read on here that the list of health conditions that should be self isolating for 14 weeks is bascially over 70's or if you have a health condition that means you'd get a free flu jab...

chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma (that requires an inhaled or tablet steroid treatment, or has led to hospital admission in the past), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
chronic kidney disease
chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
diabetes
problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
being seriously overweight (a BMI of 40 or above)

I have a BMI of over 40, but seriously, I can't call work and say I'm self isolating for 14 weeks because I'm fat?!? Anyone else with me? What are you doing?

They are putting up the document with the specific conditions on the website later so I'm waiting for that...

LadyLovelyLockz · 16/03/2020 18:05

It has crossed my mind that if I did get it, it's not helpful that I am very fat. Didnt realise it counted as a underlying condition though

Coconutjam · 16/03/2020 18:16

@wheresmymojo, do you have a link at where to find this document?

wheresmymojo · 16/03/2020 18:21

It's not been put online yet but I'll link to it when it is

I wasn't but am now due to weight gain in pregnancy! Am seriously starting to freak out now. 36 weeks and getting very fecking worried about what labour will be like.

I’m in the same boat - 21 stone . BMI of 42-43 , thought to have sleep aponea but never investigated. I’m absolutely terrified as my username says , not only of the virus but also concerned if I get properly ill they’ll not help me . I desperately don’t want to die alone .

As such - for as long as I can - I’m not leaving my house or garden . I’ve been agoraphobic for years so it’s relatively easy to slip back into that iyswim . I’m not working thankfully .

Coconutjam · 16/03/2020 19:14

@wheremymojo, thanks!

Wolfiefan · 16/03/2020 19:18

My DH said it was if you were advised to have a flu jab. I can’t find that though.

Mlou32 · 16/03/2020 19:18

I don't think anyone would be able to live down the shame of taking time off because they are fat, regardless of government advice (unless there is an underlying health condition). Nor should they, it's taking the bloody piss! And I say that as a chunky monkey myself!

imterrified · 16/03/2020 19:23

wolfie that’s what I thought I heard them say . I had a flu jab about eight weeks ago . I don’t know if that was for being a carer though or for being fat , they never said . I’ve lost some 2 stone since Christmas - 8lb if that this week as I’ve been so stressed out I’m scared to eat .

I am just above a BMI of 40, about 40.8. I was also told at doctors today that my blood pressure is a bit high which potentially puts me into two risk groups for covid-19 complications.

I am supposed to go back in a month to get my blood pressure checked again so will use that time to try and lose weight, get my BMI under 40 and my blood pressure down as much as possible. I think even losing half a stone would help a lot and then I will need to keep going and finally lose this excess weight.

My sympathies and solidarity to any fellow fat people out there worried about how this could affect them or loved ones. I don't think many people would have much sympathy for us and its hard to see various the underlying causes such as chronic pain or mental health issues which contribute to obesity.
