Why aren’t schools closing?
Are any of you teachers?

How is this going to work if a family has to self
Isolate -

I have children doing exams who have not yet finished the syllabuses and also have high risk members in my family. I appreciate this question will seem of little importance to some -

I’m a planner and not too sure what to do.

Most invigilators where I work are retired people (including me) who should be avoiding close contact. I have no suggestions but just pointing out it isn't teachers who invigilate exams.

GozillasZit · 16/03/2020 18:05

That’s a very valid point
Thank you

My dd has another set of mocks in 2 weeks in case the school closes after Easter, she says these results may be used as her gcse grades

Patch23042 · 16/03/2020 18:33

I’m wondering whether different exam boards will take different views.

theflushedzebra · 16/03/2020 18:36

I don't see how it's feasible to delay because of the timing for higher education places.

But I guess these are unusual times.

GozillasZit · 16/03/2020 19:18

@theflushedzebra
How will they do it then if no mass
Gatherings are allowed?

Right so what comes next 🤔

I'm wondering exactly the same. I have a very confused dd here.

LIZS · 18/03/2020 18:44

Hopefully there will still be a form of independent assessment, otherwise this year's grades will not stand comparison to previous and next year groups'. MFL language exams could be run remotely, for example. Some practical assessments have already been submitted. It can't just be predicted , mock or teacher assessed grades as these tend to be unreliable long term.

theflushedzebra · 18/03/2020 19:16

They'll go on predicted grades/completed coursework? And GCSE results, maybe.

My DS1 is one the one affected by this - he's fairly upbeat, as long as I let him go to go school tomorrow & Friday - he pointed out it will be his last ever days at school Sad

He does think he's in the unluckiest school year though - for his GCSE's they were guinea pigs for the new grading system - and now a pandemic for his A levels...

GozillasZit · 18/03/2020 22:55

Predicted just isn’t very reliable is it ? Also my son did really well in mocks but was working and revising all hours since last then hoping to improve his grades - there’s a strong chance he would’ve done better 🤦‍♀️

He’s gutted

Yes, DD is regretting her strategy of waiting till after results to apply to university now (was hoping to pull up a grade on two of them and has been working so hard).

PushTheTrolley · 19/03/2020 07:37

Everyone holding their breath

AuntieStella · 19/03/2020 07:48

Oh FFS, announcement tomorrow. There are still talks with 'stakeholders' today.

So we're going to have to wait.

But - qualifications will be awarded on time (not committing to keep exact results days, but around that time) there will be an appeal process. Gav refusing to be drawn on any other aspect, but is not confident they can run an examination process, but is committed to a proper and fair system, with options to appeal. That's all he's going to say today.

He did add he has DC working towards GCSE (not clear if he means y10 or 11) so does

AuntieStella · 19/03/2020 07:51

Sorry - should have said that my previous post was based on Gav speaking during an interview with BBC Breakfast
