Can I still take my toddler to the park?

In light of the recent advice?
I’m assuming that would be ok, as long as we’re not unwell.

Yes, it’s fine

SerendipitySunshine · 16/03/2020 17:26

You might want to take some cleaning spray and spritz play equipment before your child touches them.

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/03/2020 17:28

No! Press conference going on as we speak. No non essential social contact

whereshalligo · 16/03/2020 17:31

Depends on how busy the park is I presume. If empty don't see the problem there is no social gathering.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 16/03/2020 17:31

I think the park is alright, it’s not like it’s going to be crowded and busy and you’re going to be shoulder to shoulder. Places seem quieter now too as those with symptoms are staying at home

Summery1 · 16/03/2020 17:33

Playgrounds are closed here in Ireland. I'd be ok with parks but apply social distancing - 1 metre apart. But I'd manage that with a toddler

Worriedmutt · 16/03/2020 17:34

The park is not social contact (unless the playground is very busy). It's fine to be outdoors as long as you keep your distance from other people.

user127819 · 16/03/2020 17:35

Yes - but stay away from others. The new advice is avoid nonessential social contact, but it's quite possible to go outside while avoiding social contact, and I would argue with a toddler going outside once in a while probably is essential for your sanity.

AliBear90 · 16/03/2020 17:36

Would the zoo be ok too? We have tickets booked for the zoo tomorrow for DH’s birthday for us and our baby. Or is that too risky? Will cancel if it’s too risky but I don’t think it will be busy at all currently

BlueMoon1103 · 16/03/2020 17:36

Yes and going outside it good for physical and mental health and the immune system to stay a safe distance from others and wipe your toddler’s hands after they use equipment and you’ll be fine!

anothernewone · 16/03/2020 17:40

We've been to the park but didn't let the kids go on the play area (pre warned though to avoid a meltdown)

We just took bikes and our own football and stayed away from everyone else- might aswell make the most of it until we go into lockdown and they're limited to the garden

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/03/2020 17:41

I’ve been to the park today and ate in the cafe- sorry but being inside for days/ weeks with a 2 yr old just isn’t possible for me. I’d go crazy

Monstermummymum · 16/03/2020 17:51

We went to the park today.... And we went on the play equipment. I antibaced their hands after then washed them as soon as we got home. No one else in the park. Normally we'd have a snack in the park but we didn't today to avoid hands in mouth.

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/03/2020 17:52

The rules have changed as of an hour ago.

HeyPizza · 16/03/2020 17:53

Schools to stay open, and no closing of childcare facilities - so park should be fine. They're not worried about the children mixing with children. Think of that what you will.

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/03/2020 18:02

That's clearly due to the issue of childcare for NHS workers though. The next step will be copying france and keeping schools open for essential workers only.

lostfrequencies · 16/03/2020 18:02

Yes go to the park.

Exochord · 16/03/2020 18:04

Ireland has closed parks. The virus can survive on hard surfaces. If an infected person has touched the playground equipment you could catch it. I wouldn’t go.

happytoday73 · 16/03/2020 18:08

I would while still can. My children were always up early so I'd likely go early morning now lighter so less people about and the equipment has had time for bugs to hopefully die!
