Is a productive cough a reason to isolate?

My daughter came home from nursery last week with a pretty common occurrence of a runny nose/start of a cold.. on Thursday, it was full blown coughing, sneezing, extremely snotty cold.

Her cough is very productive & 100% related to the amount of snot she’s producing. It’s worse at night as it usually is but she is coughing to clear her chest in the day on and off .. she’s had no fever & isn’t unwell, so I’m certain there’s no infection. Just a typical cold.

I have self isolated her as I felt unsure what to do but I’m now wondering about nursery this week? She’s getting over her cold & full of beans, so under normal circumstances I’d have sent her in. But should I be following the 7 day guidelines because she has some form of cough? Or is it specifically a dry cough I’m looking for? And what if any cough is not particularly persistent?!

Finding the guidelines hard to interpret ..don’t want to put anyone at risk!

No I sent my DS in with productive cough today. He's had it for over a week and the new rules say if it's a fever or new continuous cough. Double check with them maybe if you're worried!

Keep her off for goodness sake. She has developed a cough since the new self isolation guidelines came out so she meets the criteria.

Obviously there is the risk of spreading Covid 19 but also it's so unfair on the other parents to send her in for her to spread any illness right now. When I take my son back next week I'll be seriously pissed off if people try and sneak in sick kids and we have to isolate again.

I would err on the side of caution If you can tbh.

I completely understand why it isn’t the most appealing prospect dd(4) loves preschool and frankly I can’t provide her with half the stimulation they can but it’s perfectly possible to carry more than one virus at a time and if she’s particularly symptomatic she’ll be quite the little spreader.

Definitely keep her at home!
