I don't know the first thing about homeschooling and how long can I keep them home?

I want to remove my kids but my older two are year 9 and 10.

I don't know the first thing about how to carry on with their education in all their different subjects.

Do I need school supplies? A printer??

If I remove them it can only be for a week can't it? Then what?

Unauthorised absence? I can't afford fines

What if they lose their school places?

Any advice?

My advice would be keep them in school until you are forced not to. What’s your reason for taking them out at this point? Years 9 & 10 is going to involve teaching that is probably over yours and most other people’s heads.

Finfintytint · 16/03/2020 13:46

If the schools close then there is likely to be advice re online resources, etc. Schools themselves will give guidance too I expect.
I wouldn’t take them out unless they are ill.

QueenofmyPrinces · 16/03/2020 13:47

Really don’t understand why anyone would remove their child from school whilst they are in years 9/10/11.

How on earth do you think home schooling can even compare to what knowledge they will get from their teachers in the lead up to their GCSEs?!

MissFrizzleIAmNot · 16/03/2020 13:48

I would have thought the reasons were obvious

Looking for advice eon how to go about it, not whether I should, Thankyou.

There are lots of great resources online, many offering already free months membership to parents with lots of activity packs, all in class/year categories in line with the National Curriculum. These are largely free printable, so yes you'd be best getting a printer if you're thinking of keeping them off soon.
I am currently killing my printer preparing some files as our SEND child is going to need specific routines upholding strictly or we will have World War 3!
Take a look at the following:

Best of luck and stay well !

Why are you removing them?

I think it’s unlikely you’ll lose their places under the circumstances.

Yes get printing supplies and see what is available on their school website.

Plenty of other online resources too. Don’t they already use some online stuff?

Get revision guides and workbooks got all their subjects.

If you get in quick you might be able to get some tutoring.

Don’t expect teachers to catch them up on lessons they’ve taught whilst your dc are absent.

CuckooCuckooClock · 16/03/2020 13:54

The reasons aren’t obvious. Maybe they both have serious chronic conditions that make them vulnerable or maybe you’re being cautious with 2 healthy teens. Very different reasons imo.

CGP do curriculum compliant books. Every exam board also supplies text books, you can get them online- your children will probably know what board they are doing.s
Also look on YouTube.

Nearlypassover · 16/03/2020 13:58

Take them out. Encourage reading and CGP guides are good.
