has anyone's life not changed at all yet?

Apart from a few cancellations of concerts by school and community choirs, and conspicuously empty loo-roll shelves in the local supermarket, nothing here has changed. Schools are open and only one school friend of DC has been pulled out of school (but was allowed to come to a party at the weekend.) Work meetings in London continued face-to-face as planned. Trains still running, cafes still open, went to cinema, restaurant, pub, wander around RHS Wisley all this weekend with other people around. No one coughing, no one quarrelling for the last tin of beans. Church services as normal, except no shared communion cup.

I'm just a bit baffled by the extreme differences between some areas and ours. There's so much upheaval and panic described online but I can't see any changes yet.

I am assuming DH will be out of work within the next week - travel industry.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/03/2020 14:42

Everything going on as normal in my town. I haven't noticed the town centre being any quieter. DS's school is open, plenty of parents there this morning. All shops and pubs open. I'm going to the office as normal. Business hasn't been affected yet, we've had just as many orders as usual.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/03/2020 14:46

Oh, except Beavers has been cancelled for now and a few bare shelves in the supermarket!

soupforbrains · 16/03/2020 14:49

My son's swimming lessons and waterpolo training are also still running.

compulsiveliar2019 · 16/03/2020 15:00

Not massively. And for myself I'm not expecting it to due to the virus. I'm about to move house so that will be a big change obviously!
I'm a self employed carer and I work with vulnerable clients everyday. I already have quite strict infection control measures. I am quite busy so I already rely on a shopping delivery service. Im not a particularly social person so don't have many guests/ don't go out a lot. My dog is walked on land I rent for my horses which is on the way to my clients.
My clients are still going to need me. I provide a fairly essential service for most of them. So I'm not massively expecting huge changes to that.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/03/2020 15:02

Nope.
I have a chronic illness so rarely go out, plus live on disability benefits so no money issues, I don't have loads of money but my income isn't affected.

IndieTara · 16/03/2020 15:03

Nothing much changed where I am other than supermarket shelves being very empty.
DD still at school and I'm still at work.

ellanwood · 17/03/2020 10:18

It's changed now, since BoJo's announcement last night. All social clubs cancelled. Looks like school might be too. All meetings switched to Skype.

Mine is in the process of changing following BoJo's pronouncement yesterday. My company will close the offices as of tomorrow. Our factories and construction sites will remain functional though will carry out essential works only. I will thefore now be wokring from home when i would have been in my office but will still be travelling to and working on sites as required.

I've already been on this thread I think but pages back and not today.

No, life hasn't changed much for me yet, I don't go out anyway and now have an excuse! I can still get grocery deliveries with some items missing but I always bought in bulk so am ok for a few months I think. Am able to help one or two others - remotely - which is good.

I feel dreadfully sorry for other people, generally younger and with families, it must be so scary.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/03/2020 16:06

Still not much change here for me apart from cancelling weekend plans. Still sending DS to school and going to the office. We are just doing less socialising.

SecretWitch · 17/03/2020 16:21

I’m in the US, everything has changed

All public and private schools in my state closed until at least April.7

Bars, cafe and restaurants, no seated service take away only

Shops curtailing their hours ( in my area two large grocery stores have an hour set aside for those over 60 or compromised immunity only)

All non essential state employees told to stay home indefinitely

Many business such as salons and gyms have closed their doors

Drive through CV19 test available at no cost in some locations

Hospitals may not provide elective surgery

My little town has identified three CV19 cases

Happily, my state’s major electricity provider is not disconnecting anyone for non payment.

A huge internet provider is not suspending accounts and will set up WiFi access for any student for free

The roads are much emptier

It all seems like a dream to me

Pippitypong · 17/03/2020 16:30

I work in London (cant wfh) you could have heard a pin drop on my train today. Not just much fewer people but no one talking at all. Lots of extra curricular things cancelled and will only be a matter of time before school closes I think. Wondering if/when we will be stopped from going to work.

Fieldofgreycorn · 17/03/2020 16:36

All fairly normal this end. Mild asthma but I don’t need daily management. Working in public services. Sitting here in office. Most colleagues (but not all) are in.

Roads were quieter (which isn’t a bad thing in some respects) and shops noticeably less busy. Bought some Hotel Chocolate supplies at lunchtime. Might pop in to marks on way home for some dinner.
