Cleaning the house
souldivachakkakahn · 16/03/2020 09:56
Morning all. In normal times, I hate harsh cleaners. I use Method products, no anti-bac / Dettol unless actual poo is involved.
I want to make sure I'm cleaning the hard surfaces, door handles etc as well as I can. What are people using? I couldn't get my hands on any Dettol even if I wanted to! Which I don't, really.
So, what are people using?

Any kind of bleach will nuke stuff. So will soap/washing up liquid. You don’t need dettol or anti bac.
Wildthyme · 16/03/2020 10:00
Nuke it from above. Its the only way to be sure.
Bleach or dettol is fine. Antibac wipes are convenient but not necessary really.

I cleaned /wiped everything yesterday with hot soapy water then the Mumsnet favourite zaflora. House smelt less of dog lovely and fresh.
Washed everything at 60. And I will do this everyday. I work NHS frontline and I am worried about bringing unwelcome friend home 😕

I read about diluting bleach with water in a spray bottle, can't remember the quantities but I'm sure it's google-able.
I've randomly got 3 bottles of mould & mildew cleaner which is bleach based so I'm using that with a cloth (only use once) or kitchen roll.
I read anti bac won't kill it but can remove it from surfaces so I'm using those a bit too

Diluted bleach. 1 part in 10 if you’ve got a sick person in the home. 1 part in 100 if you’re just taking precautionary measures.
If 1 in 10, use good gloves, because it’s caustic.
Don’t make up a spray bottle to keep... it’s not stable and breaks down. If if no longer smells bleachy, it’s no longer effective.

Thanks all. I've got bleach, but I'm a bit afraid to use it. How would it work on a wooden kitchen work surface?
mommybear1 · 16/03/2020 13:59
No OP don't use bleach on wood it will damage it - even with varnish on. If you want to anti bac
go with Zoflora or Dettol.
