This doesn't seem right?

My child woke up this morning with a cough and a crackly chest. He's not got a temperature and seems fine but of course we are now self isolating for 7 days. I live with one of my parents who is a hospital doctor, and my other parent (I could potentially self isolate at their house) works with vulnerable children who have a wealth of health conditions. But the advice is for them to carry on as normal and not self isolate unless they have symptoms. There's no test available for us to confirm if he has it or not. To top it all off, I work in an airport so am not exactly low risk. Is it just me, or does this feel wrong?

Well I guess the press conference going as we speak clarifies this question then!!

There's a difference between you not wanting to pick up your shopping as your child is too ill, or thinking you CAN'T because your child is ill even though you are not ill and can take your bags of shopping from a person in an outside environment. How do you think Italy and Spain are coping?? People are still shopping.

Common sense is needed. The government have said isolate yourself if you're feverish or have a cough. If it's your child who is ill, of course you must isolate with him and your partner needs to keep his distance if he must go to work. The guidelines do not state that anyone in a household must isolate. As long as he isolates as soon as he shows symptoms and ensures he is washing his hands as he leaves the house to prevent bringing germs out with him.

In spite of the rubbish 'advice' given by out government, people still need to go to work, and leave their houses. Until we are in a lockdown, then you need to be sensible and do your best to avoid people. Whatever you say, it is hysteria.

@jomalone have you seen the latest advice? It's not hysteria. I also don't have a partner. My whole household now needs to self isolate.

Apologies posted the before I had heard today's update. Hope you and your little one can sort something out.

eeeyoresmiles · 16/03/2020 22:44

Did you get your shopping?

Dizraeli · 16/03/2020 23:19

@eeeyoresmiles I didn't. They did cancel it for me though. I've changed it for a delivery. Not for a while due to demand but we have enough in. I'm home on my own now as my dad is staying at his friend's who is out of the country. He has underlying health problems so he's staying away. Now on my own here with a 17 month old and I'm now not well. Really hard. But at least we are not high risk.
