Confused about travel to Germany

NemophilistRebel · 16/03/2020 08:09

Germany has closed borders but it doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t accepting flights from U.K.

Does anyone know for sure if holidays to Germany will be cancelled from Uk yet?

I would check online with official websites!

ShanghaiDiva · 16/03/2020 08:12

Why would anyone travel at this time?
Countries are closing borders and encouraging self isolation to try and manage this crisis. People travelling abroad just add to the crisis: it’s an additional burden on health services and quarantine procedures.

We were due to go to Berlin early April. We've cancelled the hotel and will be contacting Ryanair to see if we can rebook at a later date.

IrenetheQuaint · 16/03/2020 08:16

When are you due to go? (I really wouldn't.)

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 16/03/2020 08:18

Why would you go on holiday and risk pressure on a country locking down to cope? That's daft and selfish. We all need to recognise that these are extraordinary times and our behaviour needs to change.

MoltonSilver · 16/03/2020 08:19

Oh for God's sake. All holidays are off.

NemophilistRebel · 16/03/2020 08:20

Thanks il see if they can rebook
It’s not me but DH and friends. DH doesn’t feel they should go but friends still want to and want to wait until decision is taken out of their hands (like seemingly many selfish brits at the moment)

We have flights booked to Germany for early April. I'm assuming we won't go and am just waiting for them to be cancelled in the hope we might then get our money back. We had been planning to visit DSD who's out there for a job, and is currently trying to figure out when and how to get back. I'm assuming they'll be ok with foreigners leaving their country, though she'll need to find a flight as I don't think France will let her though overland. I can't see why you'd want to go for a holiday. Everything is closed

Frenchw1fe · 16/03/2020 08:24

There's no point going because you will just be stuck in your accommodation.

My dd is due to visit us in France next week but if she came there would be absolutely no where to take her. Just the local supermarket and pharmacy.
We drove our dog to a quiet spot for a walk yesterday afternoon and this morning have received a polite email from our French neighbours reiterating that we must only go shopping. They obviously think we have not observed the rules.
