Will banks open in the event of a shut down?

I can’t find any information about this from the other countries that have a shut down. Just saw about chemists and supermarkets.

Has anybody seen anything that says banks will open?

Physical banks probably not. But why would they when there's ATM's and online/telephone banking.

Spanish banks are open and going to the bank is one of the reasons you're allowed to go out. I'm in a country with social distancing measures (schools closed, restaurants etc closed, working from home) and the banks are open here. But obviously the UK could make up its own rules if there were a shutdown.

@nakedavengeragain I will have some cheques to put in that’s why I need an actual bank. Assuming they come out!!

I’m actually quite stressed about it and wish the money could be transferred instead straight into the account, but they wont do that. Sad

Do you have a banking app? Lots allow you to pay in a cheque on your phone.

Do you have internet banking, OP?

My HSBC app allows me to take a photo of the cheque instead of going to the branch or post office to pay in.

You can pay In cheques using mobile banking. Most banks also now have atrium machines that allow you pay in cheques without having to use a teller but you might have to travel.

If you've cheques to pay in I would do so today or look on your banking app for digital paying in. I know HSBC and Barclays both have this facility.
In terms of branches, my banks been told to vet all customer appointments and if you visit the branch displaying a cough, looking unwell etc they have been told they are in the right to ask to you leave and come back when you're feeling better or help you do your banking through a virtual channel like video banking. Money is dirty anyways let alone with corona germs festering.

Thank you everyone. I will look into a paying in app. Great idea.
