Isolation, scared I may infect my baby

Hi all,

NC for this as I feel a bit like a drama queen. I am running a temperature of 38.5 and have just started a dry cough. Obviously I am worried that this might be the Coronavirus. I feel terrible.

I have a three month old and have been in self isolation for two days with him and my partner. I am terrified that I might infect him, I am trying to stay away as much as possible but he sleeps in a cot next to the bed. The sofa is not big enough for me to sleep on and we dont yet have a crib. We cannot afford a blow up bed.

I guess there is no point of posting this but I am just terrified I am going to cause the death of my baby. I know I'm being dramatic but I cant stop crying.

Babies have caught it and recovered well. Keep looking after yourself and try to get some sleep which is imperative for keeping well.
The amount of times I've had something and the babies haven't caught it, or they've had it and we've not caught it from them astounds me, honestly I didn't stop kissing my daughter when she had hand, foot and mouth (I figured I was doomed anyway) and no one else in the house caught it at all.
Just because you might have Coronavirus doesn't mean that the baby will get it. Don't forget lots of fluids.

Babies are extremely low risk for COVID - worldwide there have been no serious cases in under 9s. Just carry on as normal - your baby is more likely to be distressed by you avoiding them than by an extremely mild infection of coronavirus

You can’t isolate yourself from the baby. Almost all evidence shows babies will be fine. Of course you’re scared though - try to look after yourself and even though it’s hard - don’t worry about the baby too much. They are tough and resilient little things. She has you looking out for her.

Also if you're breastfeeding the advice is to carry on as it's better for you and baby

The most important thing you can do is keep breastfeeding. You will be passing antibodies to your baby - non-specific antibodies which will help reduce the risk of infection, and if you contract it you'll provide specific antibodies which will help him fight this particular virus.
