To keep dc off school

We have 2 dds, 13 and 11. I want to keep them off from tomorrow, dh disagrees. They want to go in as they don’t want to miss anything. I didn’t want to keep them off as dd1 has very low attendance due to anxiety anyway but now feel I should. Also schools are going to be closed for a long time (NI)

DH is late forties, takes meds for high blood pressure and kidneys, I’m early forties with ME. DH is working from home from Monday as he’s in a high risk group so it’s seems like madness to send them to school to bring it home. Obviously I don’t want them to catch it either. Everyone appears well so far but I wouldn’t want them to be spreading it in school if they had it with no symptoms.

So now I’m the worst in the world for keeping them off but this seems preferable to someone ending up in hospital.

I'm keeping my ds off. I have asthma and to me it's not worth the extra risk of catching it.

I'm sending my three in until told otherwise. I understand if you have health problems you want to keep them off but remember this could go on for months.

We are keeping our daughter off. Better safe than sorry.

I’m at my wits end now. Let dd1 go in today as she had a meltdown as she needed to copy up maths notes. She has Aspergers as well as anxiety. Kept dd2 off much to her disgust. Now dd1 says she’ll have to go in tomorrow to change the password for her school account, she forgot to do this today.

Meanwhile we are all being advised to avoid offices and pubs but it’s fine to send the kids to school. We are very lucky that dh is able to work from home as he’s in an at risk group. As he’s in a group that gets the flu jab, he’s about to be told to stay at home for 12 weeks, as per latest government advice today. So he should avoid going out to catch the Coronavirus but we’re meant to send the kids to school where there’s a high chance of catching it and bring it back to the house.

Not to mention that 10-19 year olds have a 0.2 chance of dying from it and of course nobody knows if there might be any long term effects.

I’m keeping my primary and secondary children off from tomorrow. Not worth the risk. School haven’t told us, but know of confirmed cases. If social distancing is recommended then that should include school. This is going to grow very rapidly now, why take the chance.
My daughter, secondary age, cried when I told her. She loves school and doesn’t want to fall behind.
I don’t think it’ll be very long before they close now but I’m not waiting any longer.
