Name changed for this

I self isolated on Friday after the government changed its advice. I'd had a cough for a couple of days, really dry, but no other symptoms really. Felt bad staying off as I'm a teacher and will be missing exam classes.
Woke up Saturday feeling lousy, cough was worse and had an indescribable headache.

Long story short here, I was asleep for most of the day, apart from to wake up to call 111 after checking the online 111 service. On there, the nurse asked 25-30 questions and said I should self isolate for the 7 days from when my cough started and that I could expect a follow up call from the local NHS service.

When they called, they asked 4-5 questions and the nurse (?) I spoke to there said it sounds like just a bad cold and I no longer need to self isolate...

Hmm what do I do? Genuine question? Who should I go with? I feel a lot better today but the cough is still there a little. I think I've already made my mind up about what I will do, but I suffer terribly with general anxiety anyway and need reassurance

If in doubt, with those symptoms I'd self isolate.

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 16/03/2020 06:01

Anyone else?

Thanks Frank

Sorry you are feeling rubbish. Self isolate. At best it's not Coronovirus but you are out of a situation where you could catch it when at a low ebb. Or pass your cold to someone else who similarly could do without being at a physical low ebb.

The government advice:
If you have a new continuous cough OR a temp you need to self isolate for 7 days.
You have a cough. You need to self isolate. Doesn't matter if you or anyone else thinks it's CV or not, you need to self isolate.
(Gov advice also is not to call 111 unless you need medical assistance due to how unwell you are.)

I'd self isolate to be on the safe side.

I would self isolate tbh

Nurses are overwhelmed. Use common sense

kimlo · 16/03/2020 06:18

I would stay off for the 7 days.

Thanks all. That was what I was thinking but when you have anxiety you question every decision, even government sanctioned ones!

@Zacharyezrarawlings the advice on 111 online says to call 111 if your symptoms have stopped you doing activities you normally do... I don't usually spend the whole day in bed, either asleep or unable to sit up due to a nausea-inducing headache. Which is why I called. Again, not a decision I took lightly as I know resources are stretched. To be honest,I find a lot of the wording around this quite vague and ambiguous, and much more clarity is needed.

Continue to self isolate for 7 days. You are doing the right thing. Anxiety is hard enough without having to face this. I really hope you start to feel better soon.

Thanks @toothfairy73. Really appreciate that
