Are you sending your child to school tomorrow?

I’m torn. I want to keep them out and am lucky that I work from home so I can, but, If they never close the schools then I will be potentially keeping my child off for months. Wwyd

I’m telling the schools we’re self isolating for 7 days. Hoping there’ll be more clarification on closures by next weekend. One DC has asthma and I have lung scarring from 2 bouts of pneumonia. I can’t risk it.

Beebityboo · 15/03/2020 22:34

Really, really torn here too. DD can't go as she has a cough that started yesterday but I have two others in school.
DD and I both have underlying issues and I am terrified we will be highly unwell if we catch this. I just want to keep them home and safe but it could be months and months until the virus is gone/not as much of a threat.
I don't know what to do. In floods of tears tbh Sad.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/03/2020 22:36

I'm torn, whilst both my children are relatively healthy with no major health concerns.. in asthmatic and have vulnerable parents.

But, on the flip side, both myself and my dh work in retail, and we will still be working, so unless we all isolate it seems pointless to stop the kids going to school yet ?

Fatted · 15/03/2020 22:38

How many threads do we really need on the same question?

Bellabelloo · 15/03/2020 22:44

Yes. Until they close.

Fatasfooook · 16/03/2020 06:53

Beebityboo
It’s really tough isn’t it. With so much of the world on shut down it seems surreal that we are carrying on as normal. It feels like sending the children somewhere dangerous

No, my ds, age 7, has woke up with a temperature this morning 😔

AgentPrentiss · 16/03/2020 07:00

I’m sending mine until they tell us not to. 🤷‍♀️

cptartapp · 16/03/2020 07:06

Yes. We're all fit and healthy. I'm a nurse so can't wfh. Hope they keep them open as long as possible too. No family in the county to help.

Nomorewine77 · 16/03/2020 07:07

No DS 12 has ALL the symptoms and actually feeling pretty grotty, DS 15 was coughing half the night although so far seems ok ( in that he doesn't feel ill ) so no neither of them will be in for the week.

mummyof2ds · 16/03/2020 07:23

Oldest ds yea ds2 no only because oldest normally stays with his grandad Monday to Wednesday has I can't get him to school on them days and my dad has pcso and auntie is Down syndrome and other health issues. So keeping his home today until I can sort for him to get him to school tomorrow

Bluewater1 · 16/03/2020 07:26

Yes until they close or unless they develop symptoms (high temp or new cough). Then I will keep them off for 7 days.
None of us are in the vulnerable groups though

Scruffyoak · 16/03/2020 07:28

Yes mine are going I'm not totally comfortable with it but I have to go to work

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 16/03/2020 07:29

Mine are staying home.
The eldest has a temperature and a cough so he's self isolating in any case. His 7 days take us to Thursday.
DH is also self isolating with similar symptoms. He sent his apologies to the younger ones nursery and they suggested we keep her off as well.
DH wants to keep them off for good now.
I've told him we'll see how the week goes and reassess. But honestly, I think this is it.
I feel like I'm looking down the barrel of 4 month home Ed.
Bit anxious about it if truth be told.

Random18 · 16/03/2020 07:37

Yes!

Xiaoxiong · 16/03/2020 07:43

Mine are both coughing - pretty sure one is asthma and one is an allergy to daffodils but we are following the guidelines and self-isolating for a week.

Kenworthington · 16/03/2020 07:49

We are not sending ours. I sent an email saying we are self isolating. We are not. I just don’t fully trust the government has our best interests at heart and that we want to protect t our most precarious things. Dh works from home and dc are teenagers and I don’t work so no disruption for us

Scruffyoak · 16/03/2020 08:08

If you keep at home ate you avoiding all social interactions for the foreseeable?, potentially 4+mths?

IsolationMum · 16/03/2020 08:10

@Scruffyoak think the whole world will be limiting social interactions for the foreseeable!

CircleofWillis · 16/03/2020 08:12

Yes!

Minesacider · 16/03/2020 08:14

Yes, my two are going. They have no health issues which would sway me to keep them off at present. I do know at least three classmates of theirs wobt be in, though (one with chronic asthma, one with a mild cold, another for reasons I dont know of) and that's just from talking to a couple of people. It may feel quite quiet this week.

Scruffyoak · 16/03/2020 08:22

Yeh but I know people keeping off school but still going swimming...the mind boggles.

SistemaAddict · 16/03/2020 08:26

My three are not going to school. I've told school they are self isolating. Three of us have asthma, my elderly mum is my only childcare and is self isolating so I'm not prepared to take the risk when most of the affected countries have taken drastic measures but our government is faffing about.

AdelaideK · 16/03/2020 08:28

Yes mine are going.
