If this virus affected Children more than the elderly, do you think that people' s opinion on self isolation would change?

I know a lot of people have major concerns about having to self isolate, especially financially and mentally(I'm not talking about these -but there are also people who are saying they would still need to go for a walk/jog/bikeride/ go to the shop etc

Do you think people in general would be more willing or take it more seriously if the at risk group was different ?

My parents both died when I was in my early 20s. It was awful. But I wouldn't recover if one of my kids died.

I know someone who was raised by her 70 yo grandmother after her mum died when she and her siblings were 3-10 years old. That woman was extraordinary and lived to an active 105 and was a huge support to all the grandkids (as well as her son-in-law). Their lives would not have been the same without her.

In that situation a woman lost her only daughter (a loss she struggled to accept) but her grandchildren gained a mum. Life is complicated but the best any of us can do is carry on.

You do realise that there are actual "old people with health conditions" who are part of Mumsnet, don't you? How do you think they feel reading this

I would love to hear from any elderly person who honestly thinks that their death would be more tragic than the death of a child

She sounds like a great woman but With the greatest of respect those children didn’t gain a mum they lost a mum!
