What would happen in this situation?

I am currently living with my elderly parents (both over 70). If all those over 70 are told to isolate, what would those under 70 who love them do?

Would they also have to isolate or would they continue as normal?

I live with two elderly parents one with a chest condition and the other recently recovering from cancer so I'm taking it seriously and building strategy for keeping them safe until things calm down or we get some more information.

I'm 45 and have prepared food water in case mains water is tainted, and also bought some games and puzzles, so I have no need to go outside for 4/6 months if required but hopefully this amount of time is not required.
Any no essential mail goes in the garage for 14 days quarantined by me :) I always answer the door and keep distance, clean up after any external interactions.

Basically I'm a sacrificial Butler

I’m taking similar precautions. My biggest problem at the moment is I’m still having to go to work, not sure what to do about it

You have to make arrangements to live elsewhere unless you can work from home and isolate with them.

Really is just helping to smooth the curve and giving the hospitals some breathing room for when the inevitable happens and I think we all will need immunity for next years wave.

I would try to practice social separation inside the house, keep to your own space, and have a good clean down routine after work, quarantine clothes that could be highly contaminated like coats and outside trousers ...

We can only do are best :)

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 15/03/2020 21:20

@NanSlayer - why would the mains water be tainted? And why would the mail be contaminated for 14 days?

Lipz · 15/03/2020 21:26

The message is, if someone in the house is in isolation the rest living there have to too. Unless you have completely separate living space and no contact. There is no point someone going into isolation and everyone else continuing on as normal, that defeats the purpose of isolating.

The UK water supply is disgusting and why would you assume it is safe?

The mail person visits every single house and touches every letter box and every letter the virus can live on surfaces for 3+ days the letters are not essential so I'm putting them in the garage for later, why risk it?

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 21:32

@Lipz it really about flattening the curve and putting off the inevitable as you can't isolate forever.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 15/03/2020 21:40

@NanSlayer - I disagree. The UK water is not disgusting. Why would I assume it isn't safe? And if the virus can survive on hard surfaces for 3 days why quarantine the mail for 14 days? Surely you can touch the mail and then wash your hands? Unless you're in the habit of licking the letters and or fingers.

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 21:53

@LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone I disagree with you the water is disgusting, southern Irelands water is beautiful

The mail is non essential so I'm forgetting about for a few weeks it's quite a simple concept, I'm sure you can understand.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 15/03/2020 21:58

@NanSlayer - we're going to have to agree to disagree. But I think you're catastrophising on a scale that's completely over the top.

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 22:08

@LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone bless you and your fouled taste buds.

Remember failure to prepare is preparing to fail.
