My dd's class. Does this mean I need to resign myself to getting it?

How do you know they will still be sent in?

They won't be sent in but my understanding is that you're infectious 5 days before (possibly more?). In which case I'm thinning their primary classroom must have been swilling with the virus?

Not necessarily, are the actually confirmed or just have symptoms? Do you and your dd practise good hygiene, regular hand washing/not touching face etc?

With the 14 day incubation period it's naturally possible any of them could have the virus and have been contagious for the last 2 weeks without knowing it. Afaik the current guidance doesn't require you to self isolate in these circumstances but obviously you could take the decision to do that anyway.

What symptoms do they have?

R2221 · 15/03/2020 20:30

@codenameduchess do you really think primary age kids practice good hygiene? Especially not touching the face!

screamer1 · 15/03/2020 20:32

Temps and coughs. I've been fastidious.

I work from home, constantly wash hands. Gel kids hands before and after school. Hand washing as soon as they come in. But that won't have stopped them picking it up in the classroom.

At my DDs primary school they have been making sure the children wash heir hands regularly, using hand gel often and have taught them how to wash hands properly.
My DD is reception, now even at home she will wash her hands before meals, before and after we go out or whenever asked so yes, I think primary aged kids can practise good hygiene.

That doesn't mean they haven't been all up in each other's business but at least they're clean....

I think the ship of trying to avoid spread in primary schools has sailed.
If we were serious about it, schools would be provided with hygiene measures and improved facilities. Instead we've long run out of paper towels for drying hands (I am bringing stacks of hand towels from home and laundering like mad in the evenings), no sanitiser available as I can't find any in the shops, and hand washing facilities are negligible.
