Covid

Genuinely in a quandary

My dd13 became ill a week and a half ago. Just wiped out, laryngitis and generally unwell, not eating, etc. She's been off school for seven days and is not materially better. She can be buoyed up with paracetamol but when that wears off she goes back to square one, almost. She's been with ex DH since Friday, he's monitoring her and has tonight judged that she's still not well enough for school tomorrow. She doesn't have a cough but has lost her voice for almost a week now.

A week ago I came down with what I thought was the same thing. Lethargy, headaches, laryngitis - and after a couple of days - a cough. This cough has got worse, persisted, it's definitely not shifting and I simply do not get coughs. I've never had a chest infection (I'm 38), never had so much as a tickle in my throat for longer than a couple of days. I am coughing a lot.

But I do now. I've been out and about a bit but obviously been nursing dd at home 90% of the time. I work from home. I keep thinking the cough is improving but it never does.

Is it worth writing off the rest of the week off or am I overreacting and the worst and infectious stage has passed??

If not, do I tell my dd school my symptoms and suspicions and risk causing worry or do I not because she hasn't been there for over a week so probably hasn't infected anyone? I'd hate to be the catalyst that causes a school closure for something that is probably
just a random virus.

It's a private school and there are no consequences for extended periods of time off school (unless multiple weeks/months obviously) so I don't need to worry on that front.

TLDR - I have just realised that I quite possibly have Coronavirus but dd and I have been ill for a week already without thinking this so is the damage already done and is there any point in causing worry at her school by reporting it at this stage? And am I right to begin self-isolating now? I would only be reporting it to the school to explain her continued absence.

Yes. It would be utterly irresponsible not to.

Hope you feel better. I'm in an almost identical position. 13 DC, ill, I've got minor symptoms.

Yes, there is a point to self-isolating from now.

No one really knows how long the contagious phase lasts and people have been testing positive for it days after symptoms have finished.

It would be absolutely irresponsible at this stage to continue to potentially be exposing people to what you believe may be coronavirus.

DD's school is highly unlikely to close because of it as schools are now being strongly encouraged to remain open.

Has anyone had a communication from their private school regarding paying fees if the school closes due to the virus? I think Skype lessons or similar is not really a good enough alternative.

We haven't had anything through but I would definitely expect to keep paying fees as normal. It's not the school's fault.

It was more about when people are not getting paid...
