DD's dad has CV - she has no symptoms. School?

As above. DD's dad came down with high temp and cough on thurs. 111 said no testing but to assume he has it. He told me Friday morning, I rang school and they asked me to pick DD up. Since spoke to him and he is worse, all his symptoms are consistent with CV.

DD and I have isolated since Friday morning, neither of us have developed any symptoms.

DD last saw her dad on tues night/weds morning. She is 8.

Obviously I will call school in the morning, but current advice seems to isolate if you have symptoms.

What would you do?

No school. See the week out in isolation

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 15/03/2020 19:22

I'd keep her off school until Thursday as it will of been just over a week isolation then since she was around her father.

MarPan3 · 15/03/2020 19:24

Isolate. For 14 days not 7.

The nhs seem to have the only scientists in the world that are giving this perplexing info out.

We should be following China’s example - quarantine for 14 days at least.

confusedandtired99 · 15/03/2020 19:25

I would probably self isolate for 7 days in case

SoupDragon · 15/03/2020 19:25

I'd keep her off.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 15/03/2020 19:25

Isolate for 14 days, and you too.

Ellapaella · 15/03/2020 19:26

I'm a nurse and I personally would be isolating for 14 days in your circumstances. The 7 days rule makes no sense.

Palavah · 15/03/2020 19:26

Have you read the guidance which was first published a couple of weeks ago? Self-isolate for 14 days if you've been exposed to someone with CV.
Why wouldn't you do that?

Palavah, the guidance seems to have changed. 111 literally asks if you have cough or temp. If you say no then it says fine to continue.

Keep her home 100%. If my DC's classmate was at school under these circumstances I'd be pretty upset.

welshweasel · 15/03/2020 19:30

She can go to school. Current advice is only to isolate if symptomatic

PeterPanGoesWrong · 15/03/2020 19:31

Isolate

It’s not complicated advice!

ilovehalloumi · 15/03/2020 19:31

Elizabethmountbatten I agree. But the guidance doesn't say that. My opinion is that schools should be closed. I would obviously prefer not to keep her off unnecessarily though. The school seem likely to say she is fine to go in.

Welshweasel, that's what I have seen. Which is why I am asking advice....which seems to be pretty conclusively to ignore guidance

This puts me off sending my currently healthy ds to school. He is considered high risk and I have to put faith in others behind my control to think sensibly. Sending a dc to school if she has been in contact with someone who has cv is completely bonkers even with no symptoms. Apart from the other kids there are also the adults to think about. Please keep her in isolation for 14 days.

LokisLover · 15/03/2020 19:41

Beyond not behind 🤦🏻‍♀️

Palavah · 15/03/2020 19:41

When you say 111 says 'fine to continue' what do you mean? Does 111 say NOT to self-isolate in that situation?

OhCaptain · 15/03/2020 19:42

The information is EVERYWHERE that children can be asymptomatic vectors.

Zacharyezrarawlings · 15/03/2020 19:42

peterpan but actually it is complicated! The advice has changed. the advice is now to ONLY isolate if you a cough or temp. Not if you have been in contact. And this is confusing people.
The reason is we have moved from the "contain" phase to the "delay" phase. So basicall the government are now saying we know this will spread, were not trying to stop it spreading anymore (contain) but we may tray and delay it a bit.

BecauseReasons · 15/03/2020 19:42

Ask the school and if they're fine to have her then take her in. Then, when/if she develops symptoms, immediately self-isolate.

Spied · 15/03/2020 19:43

Please don't send her in

Quarantined · 15/03/2020 19:46

Current advice is that you and your dd continue as normal, unless and until you develop symptoms. Of course you're free to decide to be more cautious and stay at home, but that's your choice. You're not required to do it.

surlecoup · 15/03/2020 19:46

I find it hard to understand why you even ask. Keep her home.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 19:47

Isolate.
