Baby’s 8 week jabs amidst covid etc

Hi all

My baby’s 8 week jabs are due on Wednesday and I’ve just got a text from the surgery encouraging people to seek telephone appointments for their already booked in person appointments this week. A few people say surgeries and hospitals are hot beds for infection as well..... so Wondering what the right thing to do is here, jabs as planned on weds or postpone?. The plan has been that both myself and my spouse go with her, he goes in without us to do the checking in etc and we wait in car and go straight to nurse when called and out back. My question I suppose is whether worth postponing but I’m leaning towards going ahead now - because (1) surgery not likely to be any less hotbed of things once infections become more common so now possibly better than a few weeks later and (2) the thought of a baby with delayed jabs amidst all the other chaos going on doesn’t sit well wit me. I’d rather her be up to date on all immunisations at the right time in all times, but particulalry In times of such a crisis. Do you all agree? Sorry if I’ve possibly answered my own question but trying to think about all angles, and thought worth consulting the great MN hive mind!

I'd get the jabs. The last thing we need is outbreaks of those diseases because people haven't kept to the immunisation schedule.

Agreed. Exactly my thoughts. Also - what’s going to change if I postpone Wednesday? Nothing - except that universe forbid if she does get the virus she will then, in addition also be behind on jabs which is a pointless outcome.

I’ve been worrying about this too. My baby’s jabs are due tomorrow and I’m concerned that the vaccination may make it harder for him to fight Coronavirus if he’s already fighting the vaccination diseases. I’m going to check with the nurse before they do the jabs in case they’ve received any guidance, but i think we’ll go ahead because if we don’t do it now and we all go into lockdown I don’t know when we will get the chance to vaccinate him and it would be just as bad if he caught one of the other diseases that I have the ability to get him immunised against!

I was thinking about this yesterday. I think the real disaster is going to be from people not getting either the routine or emergency health care they need because of Coronavirus. I will be prioritising immunisations more now than ever.

Yep absolutely- she’s getting her jabs on weds as planned..

My baby is due her 8 week jabs tomorrow. She's nearly 12 weeks old because this was the earliest my doctors surgery could fit us in.

We're going to put the rain cover on the pram to keep her covered. We'll try and keep distance from anybody else. If we can't, I'll wait outside until we're called.

I really don't want to go but equally don't want to put her at risk of other diseases by putting off her vaccines further.

Well my daughter's vaccinations got cancelled today, we rescheduled for next week but they've just been cancelled too.

My 16wo was meant to be getting his 3rd set of jabs tomorrow but he has a mild cough and runny nose so, while he probably has a cold, we now have to isolate for 14 days.
I called the clinic to tell them and asked to rearrange for 14 days time but was told to call back. The receptionist did also say she doesnt know where we'll be in 2 weeks and if appointments will be going ahead.

My dd got her 16 week jabs this morning, and tbh the gp's surgery was very very quiet. They are restricting to telephone appointments only, unless the GP authorises an in person appointment. I weighed up the risks and decided that immunisation was too important to miss, as others have said.

I would absolutely
