To self isolate

I work in a school and my partner works in a care home. Since Friday we have both had shortness of breath, a mild fever, a mild cough, dizziness and headaches. I feel like we should self isolate, especially since we know we have been in contact with nurses who are now self isolating.

But the manager of his care home is insisting that people who call in sick visit the home to be tested for a temperature and that 'if paracetamol makes you feel better you haven't got it'. Is this true? I haven't heard this anywhere else but I'm worried about the culpability of bringing a very mild form of it into his care home.

Help!

I also feel guilty about having a week off when we have assessments in school and its mild. I don't want to take it into work though. Arghhh!

You should absolutely stay home. Really bad of the care home to say that! I understand they're probably going to be short staffed but people could literally die if they get it.

How can the manager say that? He's putting both his residents and the public at risk. I've not read anything like that in the press. What a prick. Definitely self isolate. Rules are high temperature and/or cough = self isolation.

The guidance is very clear- a fever OR a new cough.

They have already made one person come into work to be tested. As I said he's relatively mild. But I don't want him responsible for infecting people who won't get it mildly! Even if it's not COVID, the home doesn't want an illness at the moment.

You should isolate as pet government advice.

Your boss cannot make you do anything.

Call in then follow up with an email linking to the government advice.
