lolaflores · 15/03/2020 18:20

Thought ski season was over by now? If France is locking down then the guests have to allez vite n'EST pas? No hotel no nothing so off u go so someone has to get them home. Would be the same case if an airline went diwn

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 15/03/2020 18:20

This should be moved to CV Thread.
People who paid and couldn't get a refund. DM just returned from French Alps - she went ahead because she wouldn't be refunded. Not a single CV case in resort, apparently.

I'd guess there are a substantial number of Brits who've been there all season, mostly
working.

There's still no advice not to travel, there certainly wasn't when many of these people would have left home, even if they are on holiday.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/03/2020 18:23

Things have moved very rapidly in the last couple of weeks. The holiday would have been booked weeks or months ago, and two weeks ago anyone saying "I've got a ski holiday booked, should I cancel" would have been told, no of course not, go and enjoy yourself.

Findumdum1 · 15/03/2020 18:25

Ski Season goes on until end of March and even into April in some resorts. Many of the people who might be stuck are seasonal workers - lots of British gap year students and the like go out and work for the entire season as chalet staff/ski shop staff/ski instructors etc. Many british people would have ski trips booked this week as it is still peak season. Lot of people due to go over Easter too which is one of the busiest times. This was probably the last week before people cancelled but the staff will still be stuck out there.

DragonNight · 15/03/2020 18:25

Who says the govt has to bail them out? My DH flew out yesterday (I admit I thought he was stupid) for a week skiing and the tour operator have arranged rescue flights home tomorrow for all their customers.

Who the fluff is going on ski jolly?

Well 30,000 Brits apparently!

Things are changing so quickly. Even just a few days ago there was no advice not to travel to France, people will have had this booked for months with no chance of a refund, and would have perhaps thought that they would get more warning if there was a chance they would not get home.

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 15/03/2020 18:32

I'm surprised that so many people were chilled enough about covid to fly out yesterday.

I dont want them to come back and spread the virus even more.
