I'll reiterate. Lighthearted. Assuming medicines don't count (you have an unlimited amount and they've invented a way to administer medical need virtually)

I've only got half a bottle of wine left so that's shit. Maybe a small amount of vodka in the freezer.

We always have tons of pasta but there's little to have with it. Oh! Frozen spinach. That'd help a bit. Dd is parky so she would complain until eventually caving and eating the weird pasta spinach concontion.

We would run out of deodorant within 5 days so there will be lots of showers.

I reckon at least a month but some of the combos might not be great. Breakfast will be the challenge as we'll be out of milk and bread in a week. I also have a guinea-pig so the lack of fresh veg once we've got through what's in the fridge would be problematic. I have enough gin to last the whole street for weeks so think I'll be covered on that score!!

LuluJakey1 · 16/03/2020 18:31

We have loo roll and liquid soap and disinfectant and washing stuff- always have plenty in. Ok for toothpaste and shampoo. We'd manage 3 weeks pretty easily but that's it.

LuluJakey1 · 16/03/2020 18:29

I still have the tinned stuff, jars of pasta sauce and dried pasta and rice from Brexit. There is also all the stuff that I buy and we have not eaten - more tinned stuff and some frozen stuff. We always have frozen baked potatoes and quorn sausages in the freezer and lots of frozen soup. There are about 5 boxes of crackers and 3 loaves (frozen). Two dozen eggs. Some cheese. A couple of tins of tuna. No other meat or fish. Quite a bit of fresh fruit and veg. I think there is dried milk. Maybe 3 weeks worth of some kind of meals.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/03/2020 18:20

I was thinking I’d be ok. Then I saw some videos of the blocks of flats in Italy. In one, a man hangs over the balcony playing the saxophone, someone is banging something in tune and someone sings. Others join in. More and more join it.

Then I realised that I would go postal... my neighbours on either side have small kids and they are Frozen and Lion King crazy.

Shosha1 · 16/03/2020 09:22

12 weeks for just DH and I. Would run out if milk. Plenty of flour and yeast in. Tin cupboard is fairly well stocked. Freezer has loads of frozen meat and fruit.
Fridge has butter, baking spread and fresh veg.

DH went yesterday and bought lots more fresh veg from the local prison farm shop then spent the afternoon turning it into various soups, so have now a chest freezer half full of them.
Loo roll we have 12, plenty if soap as only use plain soap bars and have looked up how to turn one bar into 4 bottles if liquid soap so will have a go at that.
Buy a lot at the local eco shop so tend to buy in bulk from there as well.
So all in all not to bad.
DH would probably run out of coffee and cider tho.

RiftGibbon · 16/03/2020 09:20

I've got plenty of gin and chocolate.
Seriously, I have about 10 days worth of food (I usually keep a week in hand in case of unexpected guests/friends needing emergency help/general contingency), but we are low on paracetamol and Calpol.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/03/2020 09:15

About four weeks, I think. That last week would be a bit weird though.

bellinisurge · 16/03/2020 09:05

I'm a general prepper so no problem.

wejammin · 16/03/2020 09:03

I'm well prepped on food since talk of a no-deal Brexit, so I reckon at least a month on food, although we'd be eating Christmas pudding with gravy granules eventually. Drinks would be neat, no mixers in.

If the internet went down and my 8 year old with autism had no tech to play on, we'd all be dead in 24 hours so it could be academic (light-hearted, clearly he wouldn't murder us, but I wouldn't cope long with the epic meltdowns)

HoffiCoffi13 · 16/03/2020 08:58

Surely you'd want to try to drag it out for 4 weeks fairly uncomfortably?

The 2 weeks fairly comfortably would be because I have fresh food that needs eating within the next week or two. Uncomfortably means we have loads of dried stuff like pasta and lentils but no fresh stuff to make it an enjoyable meal. So it would pretty much always only be 2 weeks comfortably, regardless of what we did with the food.

The IL’s are currently on lockdown in Spain and are still allowed out to buy food so id assume the same here anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️.

And if we were on lockdown indefinitely, I’d probably rather have 2 nice weeks then die of starvation rather than 4 miserable ones Grin

FrenchFancie · 16/03/2020 03:57

So this sort-of just happened to me. Cyprus is going into lockdown (with limited access to supermarkets) from 6am.
Strangely the two things that have worried me - the cats were meant to get their injections this week and I haven’t bought any short sleeve t shorts for dd - by the time the lockdown is lifted (30th April) it will be hot here and she’s got no summer clothes.
We don’t really have any mail order facilities to speak of, I might be able to get stuff sent from the U.K. our supermarkets don’t really stock clothes.
No idea what I’m doing about the cats. Will call vet once dust has settled and see what he can do.

Luckily I have gin and a fair bit of tonic so that should be ok. Who the hell needs vegetables anyway?!?

LonginesPrime · 16/03/2020 03:01

2 weeks fairly comfortably

Surely you'd want to try to drag it out for 4 weeks fairly uncomfortably?

I reckon physically, we've got enough food to last 3-4 weeks if we ration it. Although DS17 eats everything as it comes in the door so there would be a Cloverfield-style standoff. One of us would die.

TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 02:41

I reckon a month, so it would probably be 6 weeks or a bit more. Got a fully stocked freezer, pulses etc.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/03/2020 02:39

About 5 weeks I think but some of the meals would be bizarre by the end of that period. We have quite a bit of tuna, quite a lot of baked beans as I keep buying them on auto pilot even though no one in out house actually eats them. We would survive.

However ds2 is currently at uni and if he comes back for the Easter holidays we are doomed to starvation. He can clear the fridge out in a day.

GnomeDePlume · 16/03/2020 02:21

Can we barter?

I have lots of homebrew cider, beer and wine. The cider is the proper stuff brewed from own grown apples. The beer and wine are from kits but decent enough.

Also got jars and jars of ketchup made from tomatoes, peppers etc last summer.

If I can tunnel out to the allotment then we can start on the rhubarb.

YahBasic · 15/03/2020 21:13

Probably 6-8 weeks if we reduced our portion sizes slightly.

I’ve got about a stone to lose so it wouldn’t really be a hardship.

We’d struggle initially getting used to frozen or tinned food, as we go through a lot of fresh veg and side salads, but we’d have to adapt.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 20:56

Maybe 6 weeks. Would be longer if it wasn’t for Dd and her coeliac disease. Though she has got 18 loaves of long life bread (monthly prescription) so she could live off toast fairly well.

TheFluffiestCat · 15/03/2020 20:52

We have a couple of bottles of wine, plenty of beer, and a cupboard full of spirits, most of which date back to a cocktail party in 2012. We'll be grand.

TheFluffiestCat · 15/03/2020 20:51

Provided that I can use the half hour to get bread, milk and mixers from the shop round the corner, we're comfortable for a fortnight and after that will have to drink cocktails until the lentil experiments taste good. DD will struggle with lentils, so we'll have to save the baked beans and tomato soups for her. We've got plenty of cake ingredients so she can fill up on cake.

Jumpingforgin · 15/03/2020 20:11

Reckon we could last a couple of months comfortably here if we were sensible with our food. Could survive alot longer, but it would mean existing on mainly junk food and chocolate towards the end 😅 I work for one of the big supermarkets so we do big stock up shops once a month when we get extra discounts. Did one last week so we have alot of food in at the moment. We'd be seriously lacking in toilet paper and pet food within a couple of weeks though.

Wannabangbang · 15/03/2020 19:59

About a week lol

EpicDay · 15/03/2020 19:55

Have just spent all day at work on corona virus contingency plans and this thread is making my gin and tonic on the train go down a treat. I know it’s not funny really but I am laughing nonetheless.

meow1989 · 15/03/2020 19:50

I think 2-3 weeks but we would run out of milk (have 2 4 pinters in fridge and 2 uht cartons). Have fish, mince, stewing steak and chicken in fridge so could make some bolognese etc. I have flour so could make bread and have pasta and rice.

Ds would be my primary concern, sh and I could survive on less than usual.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 15/03/2020 19:47

I have a loaf of bread, some cheese and porridge oats. And that's all in the house. Oh and teabags. So not long.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2020 19:45

Hmmmm.... I would last longer if it started in 15 minutes as my 2 adult DSs are heading home right not 😂😂 Best for me and DD If lockdown starts before they get here.
