No need to isolate - 'it's the flu and a cough'?!

So an acquaintance of a family member was suspected yesterday of having coronavirus. They had all the symptoms of it and all members of their shared flat moved out (which I have a separate issues with...). Now we are hearing that 'the doctor says it's just a cough and the flu'. Am I right to think this is total BS?

  • How have they managed to see a doctor in the last 24 hours
  • Since symptoms are essentially the same for cough+flu and covid19 are doctors really going to say 'it's just the flu and a cough'

I'm feeling pretty annoyed at how irresponsible this is. All members of the shared flat are in their 30s so old enough to know better (you'd think).

Also, would you confront someone over this? That the advice is cough+ temp you need to isolate

This is the main issue with this advice.
People think they are special or exempt.
A facebook friend has been detailing her families self isolation with regular posts. Day two was yesterday. Today she is having lunch with friends at a local restaurant!
She has a very very high risk family member too so really should know better.

I find it mind boggling and deeply selfish. I wish the government would increase testing so we can all have peace of mind that people are at least getting accurate information
