Covid
15 month old baby may have coronavirus

My little boy woke up yesterday with a cough / runny nose. In the night he developed a temperature - beginning to think it may be something more serious (although he is prone to temperatures whenever he is teething). Obviously going to isolate him and keep my 3yo off nursery as well. Presume the same rules apply for babies... just monitor for a week and keep giving him calpol etc? No need to call 111? I’m very worried as he has a weak immune system as it is. Still breastfeeding him which I’m hoping might help him, even if just for comfort while he’s feeling rough! He obviously can’t talk to tell me if he’s in pain or feeling overly tired. Anyone else in a similar position?

Runny nose is symptomatic of cold rather than covid 19. Unless he's been in contact with anyone with it it's far more likely a cold x

That was what I was initially thinking / hoping! Fingers crossed just a regular cold. We will of course still isolate for the next week regardless.

Actually sorry If this isn’t reassuring but in small children the current evidence shows that runny noses are much more common when infected with Covid 19...
Keep a close eye- but children are having a vastly easier time of this.

TheSheepofWallSt I haven’t heard this with the runny noses. Will look into it though and keep a close eye.
AnneJeanne No he hasn’t been exposed (as far as I am aware but of course people may be infected / carriers without us realising)

Good news is that even newborn babies catching this are fine, so he will be ok even if it is CV.

Children are actually coping well with covid. Please keep him home and avoid the hospital. If he has it its it's probably actually a good thing now . Just all self isolate. Keep on breastfeeding and give calpol if needed.
cinammonbuns · 15/03/2020 14:47
111 will not be interested unless very severe symptoms such as struggling to breath. Give him calpol for the temperature and sled isolate.
Babies are dealing with this virus very well so he should be fine even if he does have it.
