Husband has the symptoms but no fever

Dh has had a really sore throat and now a dry cough. Had it for a few days and generally feels rough. He’s contacted work and they said he doesn’t need to be off because he doesn’t have a high fever?

Aibu to think this is ridiculous! If he doesn’t phone in sick tomorrow then I will.

He needs to self isolate. It's now fever OR cough.

aroundtheworldyet · 15/03/2020 13:13

I wouldn’t take the risk. Just tell his work he now has a high fever. How are they going to know. And I’m not saying that to promote laziness. Just so they aren’t on his back.

daisychain01 · 15/03/2020 13:13

I totally agree @BrightYellowDaffodil !

And in the absence of common sense by employers who have suddenly become armchair medics and think they can diagnose CV19 symptoms, each person needs to make their own decisions, because it's their health and that of their family and community at stake.

daisychain01 · 15/03/2020 13:16

Days 1-4 of symptoms are high contagion days
Days 5-7 contagion risk falls away rapidly

If the person still feels ill, then still stay off work until fully recovered
If the person feels OK at Day 8 they may feel like going back to work and they should be safe to do so (according to Sir Patrick Valance).

JinglingHellsBells · 15/03/2020 13:21

@Forfoxsake29 surely he's not been working all the time he has ha d the symptoms? Angry

He does realise the risks are that 1 person with it will infect 2.5 other people?

why is he even thinking of working?

PeterPanGoesWrong · 15/03/2020 13:36

If he doesn’t have a fever, he’s just got a cough!

littlejalapeno · 15/03/2020 13:40

He’s got it. Focus on rest and recuperation. Don’t let him go to work.

BertiesLanding · 15/03/2020 13:41

Your DH's work is being negligent to the point of potentially causing someone else's death. He has a persistent cough. That is enough to isolate for 7 days.

JinglingHellsBells · 15/03/2020 13:42

@PeterPanGoesWrong You def have this one wrong.

The advice is you stay indoors if you have
1 a fever
OR
2 a new cough

Which bit do you not understand?
FFS what is wrong with people?

JinglingHellsBells · 15/03/2020 13:44

This man ought to have been off work for days because the OP says he has had symptoms for days.

WTF is wrong with people?

Who has he possibly infected while he was out there?

We blame the government but idiots like this are the ones causing deaths.

MondieBee · 15/03/2020 13:45

@PeterPanGoesWrong whether or not people self isolate is little to do with if they actually have coronavirus! Cough OR fever = self isolate. This is to catch people who do have it.

I actually can't believe people are saying "Oh no I'm sure it's not coronavirus so I can go to work" that's not the fucking point my god.

JinglingHellsBells · 15/03/2020 13:51

Threads like this make me spit blood.

FGS - the outlook is grim but it's grimmer if people do not take any notice of advice.

How many other MrForFoxSake29 are out there thinking all they have is a sore throat or a cough?

Watch and read the accounts of people who had it mildly and are now recovering.

Most had a sore throat and a cough. Maybe a slight temperature ( that is over 37.5 so barely obvious without using a thermometer.)

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/03/2020 14:39

@PeterPanGoesWrong are you a fucking idiot? That is absolutely not what PHE is saying. Keep your “advice” to yourself.

PrednoLeucotropin · 15/03/2020 16:02

My DBro has the cough only and he's been in contact with someone with confirmed Covis 19. He has it I'm sure but no temperature. He's barking like a seal right now!

Forfoxsake29 · 15/03/2020 18:56

So his supervisor has told him he’s not ill enough..

OP posts:
aroundtheworldyet · 15/03/2020 19:03

Well like I said
Say he is iller

theflushedzebra · 15/03/2020 19:08

Tell them he's taken a turn for the worse this evening/overnight.

The govt advise is very clear (and IMO doesn't go far enough) - he should self isolate for 7 days with those symptoms.

Sunflower20 · 15/03/2020 19:31

So he did have a fever? And has a dry cough. In that case yes he will need to self isolate, his employers do not get to tell him how ill they think he is.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/03/2020 19:46

@Forfoxsake29

So your OH’s supervisor’s view is more important than 111’s advice? Tell him to use the 111 symptom checker and send his supervisor screenshots of the screens saying he needs to self isolate.

Ffsnosexallowed · 15/03/2020 19:50

Unless his supervisor is a respiratory clinician I'd ignore their opinion (in fact even if his supervisor was a respiratory clinician I'd ignore their advice)

Jayfee · 15/03/2020 19:54

Just tell them he has the fever (which I think you mentioned he has had intermittently). People need to self isolate.

Jayfee · 15/03/2020 19:58

Do enough people realise the coronovirus attacks the lungs, causes organ failure and sepsis in some severe cases.

Fucket · 15/03/2020 20:08

Does he work for a small or large company? Is there someone senior he could complain to? Does he have anything I writing saying that the supervisor has told him to ignore symptoms and government advice and to go to work and risk spreading it to the workforce?

I would call in sick and self isolate. No way would I want someone’s nan catching it because i went to work when Ill. Keep copies of all correspondence in case you have to take them to the cleaners for any unfair dismissal claims.

Nquartz · 16/03/2020 05:36

I seriously despair, no wonder people think it's 'just flu'

He should just tell them he has a fever as well.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 16/03/2020 05:38

Why do people think their supervisor knows better than the NHS? Ffs who cares what his supervisor thinks? He needs to follow official advice and self isolate.
