Countries on lock down: how do households get food?

Just that really. ^

The countries on lockdown (China, Italy, etc) how do they organise getting food and medication etc in? Are they given a specific time to go out? Do they allow supermarket workers to work?

I was wondering what we’d do if we went on a really strict, enforced lockdown.

What stops people going out for whatever reason - being bored etc, and just ticking the food shopping box? Fear? I just don't get how it can be policed with a tick box...

I'm guessing there will be spot checks on the streets. A bigger police presence and possibly the military drawn in.

If a lot of people flout the rules, expect to have your doors taped up to stop you going out, as happened in China.

Well there's a 200 Euro fine or 3 months imprisonment if you're caught here. The more people are stopped and the more this is reported in the press then the more likely people are not to take the risk.

This might sound stupid, but what about walking dogs?

NoHunGosh · 15/03/2020 13:10

The police have the power to check that your declaration is genuine so showing your shopping and receipt if you are heading home, providing them a receipt after the event. May well be easier to police here as everyone has always had to carry photo ID and you have to register your address as your official residence with the local council (comune) when you first move in (this is also verified by local police who come and check). Not sure how it would work in the UK.

NoHunGosh · 15/03/2020 13:12

Walking dogs is allowed though they suggest that youbonly take them out for as long as necessary (lots of memes doing the rounds on FB about people's dogs being for rent, dogs getting more walks than ever before etc.).

I'm in Italy too and we have been out to local shops rather than the supermarket as there is less of a queue.

HappyTeacher75 · 15/03/2020 13:19

@ThePawtriarchy I was wondering that too. Other than the dog driving me up the wall with no exercise we do have a garden. Those without would need to take them out.

NoHunGosh it sounds like the Italian police have a lot more resources than they do in the UK! Grin Even if they cancelled all rest days there wouldn’t be nearly enough coverage here. I guess they would concentrate on high population centres to maximise effect, and use fixed penalty notices. I think PCSOs can issue those as well, which would help.

Really interesting hearing first hand accounts from those countries which are enforcing isolation, thanks to those posting!

There seems to be no restrictions on going outside here, dogs are being walked and people are jogging, cycling alone or walking with their families. We are however quite close to the countryside so have a lot of recreational ground, forest and paths- Took my DS a good long cycle today. The playgrounds are empty but I saw a few families playing kick about and kite flying on the football pitches since the football clubs arent meeting. We've been putting plans in place to make sure the children get out and some exercise every day, mostly sorting out the garden. I havent seen any police presence at all, or heard of them being used in the bigger cities.
